I had to replace my cpu/mobo and reinstall XP. Luckily it only reinstalled the os and did not wipe out my partitions. But I tried to reinstall HEM and I get a run time error.

I was not able to find a thread on how to recover from this kind of setup.

Should I uninstall HEM and postrgess and then reinstall and rimport my hands?

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks

You should first check whether postgresql is running or not (i guess not). You can see this in the windows services.

If postgresql is not running it probably needs a reinstallation. You should install the same version (download from PostgreSQL: The world's most advanced open source database (http://www.postgresql.org)) to be able to connect to your old data: FAQ - Hold'em Manager Poker Tracking Software :: Reinstall PostgreSQL Preserving Old Database (http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/71/Reinstall+PostgreSQL+Preserving+Old+Database)

After Postgresql is up and running again we can take a look into your Holdemmanager installation but i guess thats just fine. Its just postgresql causing the problems.

Hi Netsrak,

Thanks for the reply. At this point I did the reinstall of Postgres per the FAQ. And the service is up and running as found in services.msc.

Now I have a quandry about HEM. I tried to start it and get an application error. So then I used Revo to remove it and then downloaded the upgrade again. It installed fine but no HEM. What did I do wrong?

Should I get the full installer?

Please advise.

Thanks.
Dave

Yep, you need to use the full installer after an revo uninstallation.
During the installation please make sure that the postgresql option is unchecked.

too late. I goofed up and did a full install again. I figured as the postgres said required I went with it.

This is what you get when you mix an anxious poker player with a geek.

So the postgres is up as a service. But when I try to run HEM, in Try mode as I am still working with sales to get me my serial number as I never uploaded it, I get this:
See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

I guess until I get my serial number, which I can't find anywhere, there is not much we can do?

Under Vista and Windows 7 make sure that holdemmanager.exe, hmhud.exe and dbcontrolpanel.exe are started as administrator. Run the windows explorer and navigate to your Holdemmanager installation directory. Right click the holdemmanager.exe, dbcontrolpanel.exe and the hmhud.exe executable and select "Run as admin" from the popup menu under compatibility tab.

Windows XP SP 3 so that is not valid. What next?

I can skype or google chat if you like? I would like to get this up and running ASAP.

Thanks

Manually run Windows Update and check if you can install "important updates" and non critical .net framework updates.

If you can't:

please reinstall your Microsoft .NET Framework:

1) Run http://rvgsoftware.fileburst.com/dotnetfx_cleanup_tool.zip
2) Install this one: http://download.microsoft.com/download/2/0/e/20e90413-712f-438c-988e-fdaa79a8ac3d/dotnetfx35.exe

Pat,

We have a winner. I removed the .NET stuff and then reinstalled from your link.

BAM

Once I got Kaspersky to act right, I have HEM back up and running. I will have to redo some other stuff like hud's and such, but that is to be expected.

Thanks to you and netsrak.

Happy New Year!!
