What determines max threads?

My computer will only let me select 6 threads. I have a pretty nice computer. I seen in a video a guy had 12 selected. Im shocked my computer can only go up to 6. What determines this?

In the video was used an I7 with 6 cores, thanks to hyper-threading resulting in 12 threads.

You have most likely an AMD-CPU with 6 cores and 6 threads as maximum (AMD has no hyper-threading like Intel).

So, how much threads your computer can handle is determined by your CPU.
