View Full Version : HEM Suddenly Killing PC performance

I am not sure what the cause of this is, but HEM is suddenly taking up TONS of system resources. Please note that I do not even have auto import running in this screen shot and have no poker clients open.

Beyond that, the import speed has just gotten to a ridiculous point. It used to import at 5-6 hands/sec but now I'm lucky if I can get 1.5h/s. Not really sure why it imports this slowly considering I am running 64-bit windows 7 with a quadcore processor, 4GB ram, and a 7200 rpm hard drive that is nowhere near full. On top that, PT3 imports at 40+ h/s at all times. I do not understand why my HEM performance is so low. Any assistance is much appreciated

Thanks,

Rob

Please see this thread for suggestions on how to improve performance http://forums.holdemmanager.com/manager-general/11194-top-10-hem-performance-increase-tips.html

Try removing Winner Name, Winner cards and winner won from the hands view column FAQ - Hold'em Manager Poker Tracking Software :: Hands View Column Selection (http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/192/Hands+View+Column+Selection) save it and refresh and this should increase the speed of refresh options

If your using the newer version you’ll find it under Options > Settings > Hands View Column Selection

Okay, so far I have:

- Removed winner name/cards/won
- Purged 600,000+ hands
- Performed complete vacuum/analyze of database
- Defragged my HD using Defraggler
- Deleted 2GB worth of log files
- Changed my computer settings to optimum performance

Current Hands/sec: 1.4

My HEM has never imported quickly, but as of late it has slowed down tremendously. I've also noticed that the longer HEM is open, the more system resources it takes up. This is the same for PT3 as well, but PT3 still imports at 40+h/s. I used to be able to import PT3/HEM simultaneously and have less than 7-10% CPU usage and >55-60% physical memory usage. Now it's 20%+ and 70%+ respectively. What might explain this?

Did you also turn OFF logging and reboot?

Did you assign more RAM to PostgreSQL by editing the postgresql.conf file and reboot? Which SQL version are you using?

How many partitions does your harddisk have?
When importing (I'm assuming you have Windows + PostgreSQL on C:/), are you also downloading stuff / watching movies on a different partition?

Did you try installing SQL 9.0.1 64 bit, creating a new database, reimporting your hands? How many million hands are in your database?
Did you manually VACUUM/ANALYSE your database in pgadminIII?

Out of frustration, after enduring a 134 sng import at 1h/s, I completely reformatted my secondary harddrive and installed Windows 7 on it. The harddrive was completely clean and the ONLY programs I installed were HEM and postgres 9.0. I then created a completely new HEM database.

As per the postgresconf file editing instructions, I set shared buffers to ~20% of my available memory (768MB) and effective cache size to 1536 (768x2).

I then performed a manual import of the 134 sngs that I played today. It averaged only 10 h/s, a number I know will steadily decrease if/when I opt to import my other ~2mil hands.

This is really frustrating and I have no clue why the import speed is so slow on my, otherwise very fast computer. What else could it possibly be?

On which pokersite where these hands played?

Can you run CrystalDiskMark and post screenshot that looks like:

how often you import so many files?
if rarely - just be more patient

They're all super turbo sngs. I regularly play 200 of them in a session.

Did you set the Control Panel-->Power Options are set to HIGH PERFORMANCE on your computer?

And turn off logging?

10 h/s : in control panel--> system--> advanced system settings--> hardware--> device manager--> what's the exact name of the diskdrive? (full name)
The performance seems really slow for a 7200 RPM harddisk.

Yes. Power Options are set to high. The hard drive device name is WDC WD3200BEKT-60V5T1 ATA.
