View Full Version : [Urgent] Importing DB from 2nd hard drive to current DB -- HEM1

Hello, I tried searching for a solution but I got confused.

I had a laptop that broke with HEM1 installed. I removed the hard drive from that laptop because I need the database to do my taxes.

I currently have that HD attached to my newer laptop, which also has HEM1 installed(and it has its own DB). However, whenever I click on HEM1 on my old HD, it brings up my newer HEM1 database on my newer HD. Essentially, I'm missing half of the year's hands.

I need to figure out the solution to finding my old DB with my older HH's, and importing that DB to my newer laptop/HD and combining the two databases.

Hopefully this makes sense. Thanks for your time!

I just realized this is the HEM2 forum. If someone could move this thread that would be great.

Apologies.

You need to install HM and postgres on your main hard drive.

Please install this:

http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/Holdem_Manager_Setup.exe

Then import from the [old c]:\hmarchive folder - the old c will be the drive letter that your new computer has assigned to the drive from the old computer.

*Try creating a new UTF DB - http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/75/Create+April47?+Delete+Database
*Now import a small portion of your \HMArchive so you can see if the problem exists in the new DB
*If the new DB seems to work properly, you will want to import the rest of your archives to the new DB, export/import the hands from the old DB to the new DB, and export/import any player notes and tourney summaries - and then delete the old DB.
*Make sure you export/backup everything before deleting the old DB - http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/372/Reinstalling+on+a+new+PC+-+Backup+Tips

Thanks for the reply!

Just to be clear, HM1(and postgres) is currently installed on both HD's, and has been for months. Each drive contains a bunch of unique hands. Does your solution still apply?

You might have 2 versions of postgres, on 2 different ports - 5432 and 5433.

You can go to Options - Database Management and switch the port. Then, it should bring up your other database(s) in the list to change to.

If this does not work, it will not be possible to access the database.

To have one DB though, with all hands, you should import from the archive.

Looks like all I had to do was import from the HH folder. It seems to have worked.

Thank you!
