i installed HM yesterday but today when i start the programme a message comes up saying...

"Unable to read data from transport connection. An existing connection was forcebly closed by a remote host"

is this to do with my firewall settings? ive looked on FAQ but couldnt find a solution but i saw a thread called "Version 1.11.04 bug with Bullguard" that seems to be the same/similar issue as mine. i use AVS Firewall 2.1 if that helps at all... thanks

Please update to the latest beta - http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/HmBetaUpdate.exe

This is usually a firewall or windows update issue.
First try to reboot.
If no help, try this:

Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Stop Service

Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Start Service

If that doesnt help delete the \postgresql\8.x\data\postmaster.pid file, if you see it. And reboot

Add exceptions to the windows firewall, even if it is off.

If that doesn't help you will have to reinstall PostgreSQL completely

Download and install the same version as you used before from PostgreSQL: The world's most advanced open source database (http://www.postgresql.org) and install it following this FAQ:
FAQ - Hold'em Manager Poker Tracking Software :: Reinstall PostgreSQL Preserving Old Database (http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/71/Reinstall+PostgreSQL+Preserving+Old+Database)

But if its a firewall issue you will get the same results as before. You need to configure exceptions in your firewall: FAQ - Hold'em Manager Poker Tracking Software :: Software Security Problems (Firewall) (http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/339/Software+Security+Problems+%28Firewall%29)

Which Operating System, are you using?

Can you download and install SQL 9.0.1 to port 5433 manually from PostgreSQL: The world's most advanced open source database (http://www.postgresql.org) and 8.2.x to port 5434.
Which error do you get when you install them?

There is a download button on the right side of the site.

9.x is this link for 32 bit windows: http://www.enterprisedb.com/join-dev-community.do?fileid=1518

8.2 is this link: PostgreSQL: Choose a Mirror (http://wwwmaster.postgresql.org/download/mirrors-ftp/binary/v8.2.18/win32/postgresql-8.2.18-1.zip)
