Hello,
This happened prior to the new 1.11.05 release.

ERROR with utility:
"unable to connect to PosgreSQL. Make sure PostgreSQL is installed and working on your PC. Holdem Manager Backup/Restore does not support networked PostgreSQL connections"

The only change I can think of is that I put a password on the PG server during an attempt (but ditched) effort to upgrade to Postgresql 8.4. The new PG 8.4 required a password, so I changed the password on the server.

Currently, I am able to do the following without problems:

use HEM (no problems)
backup (dump) from PG admin III and from a nightly script
use the tablescanner which must access the DB

Also, if possible, it would be nice to run this utility via command-line . Nightly, I am currently vacuuming, re-indexing, defragging, and dumping the HEM database.

Cheers!

Are you using a network installation of Postgresql or did you install it to a non-standard folder?

This is not supported by the HM backup/restore function. You should use the other tools instead (as you already do)

No. nothing has changed. Postgresql 8.3 on the same harddrive as HEM.

Every other program including HEM reads the DB without any problem.
The Backup/Restore utility is also pointing at the same DB as the HEM program.

I can only think this has to do with the password change I made to PG (my guess).
But again, the PG Admin does dumps without any problem. I actually run a command-line script every night.

When does this error message happens ?

Can you at least be inside of the backup/restore utility, like this one:

Does this error actually happens when you launch a backup or a restore, or before ??

It happens when I click "Start Backup".

It was working fine before. As I said, everything else (including HEM) works fine with the database. For some reason, the utility can no longer connect.

I'll forward this to our developers.

HowdyDoodee, when you're in HEM, and go in "Options", "Database Management", a window should pop-up.

Do you have:

127.0.0.1 as Server name
postgres as Login Name
5432 as Port number
XXX as Password, where XXX is your PostgreSQL password ?

When you click to connect, does it connect ??

When you launch PgAdmin, make sure all the informations are the same (127.0.0.1, postgres, 5432, XXX), or is there something different here ?

Do you have:

127.0.0.1 as Server name YES
postgres as Login Name YES
5432 as Port number YES
XXX as Password, where XXX is your PostgreSQL password ?

When you click to connect, does it connect ??
YES and as a test, when I put a fake password, it failed. Revert to original password, success. HEM starts.

When you launch PgAdmin, make sure all the informations are the same (127.0.0.1, postgres, 5432, XXX), or is there something different here ?
I see localhost instead of 127.0.0.1, but these are the same.
Reply from 127.0.0.1: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=64
Again, everything else connects without problems. HEM, TableScan Turbo, Database Management, and pgAdmin III.

I'm stumped.

BUMP 5 days - would like to be able to backup using this utility. thanks

Trying to make this work by myself (while waiting for the HEM contractor), somehow I have lost all of my notes. None of my manual backups are restoring properly. I have exported from a restored database 757 notes......BUT nothing imports into the new database. My database just went to hell at a bad time.

I really need this utility to work. Backups and Restores should never EVER be a problem.

Hi,

The backup restore feature is still in Beta so there are still a few problems with it, the bug has been forwarded to the developers but its extremely busy so i dont have an ETA at the moment. For now i recommend to manually backup
