I just got a 1TB external hard drive (J: ) and I was thinking if it was possible to move holdemmanager and postgreSQL over to that side? They are currently installed on drive C.

If so, how do I do it? Do I uninstall from drive C, then reinstall to drive J? ...then import hand history after reinstall? Or is there a better way to do it? Will this have any negative effect on HM performance?

Thanks!

I got an error message after moving postgreSQL database to drive J

http://img822.imageshack.us/img822/9968/75433434.jpg

HM couldn't find 127.0.0.1.

There was something odd when I was editing the string in regedit. In your instruction, the final string should have been:

"C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\8.3\bin\pg_ctl.exe" runservice -w -N "pgsql-8.3" -D "I:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\8.3\data\"

This was what's inside the 'Edit string' dialog box:

C:/Program Files/PostgreSQL/8.4/bin/pg_ctl.exe runservice -N "postgresql-8.4" -D "C:\Program Files\postgreSQL\data" -w

There was this odd '-w' at the end of the string. Thinking it was because something with my pc, I just went ahead and pasted the new path. So what I did was I pasted the new location in drive J and became this:

C:/Program Files/PostgreSQL/8.4/bin/pg_ctl.exe runservice -N "postgresql-8.4" -D "J:\Program Files\postgreSQL\data" -w

I closed everything, reboot pc, start HM, and I get the error message.

I put everything back to how it was before, changing back the Image Path string in regedit to:

C:/Program Files/PostgreSQL/8.4/bin/pg_ctl.exe runservice -N "postgresql-8.4" -D "C:\Program Files\postgreSQL\data" -w

...and I still get an error message on HM startup saying HM could not find server 127.0.0.1.

What to do now?

FAQ - Hold'em Manager Poker Tracking Software :: Can't Connect / Failed to Start PostgreSQL (http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/91/Can't+Connect+%7B47%7D+Failed+to+Start+PostgreSQL+ )

Found this on the HM knowledge base--UAC is off, no antivirus software running on my pc, checked firewall, defender, etc. still getting

"Failed to establish a connection to ‘127.0.0.1’ Service 'PostgreSQL Database Server 8.x' (pgsql-8.x) failed to start"

I am downloading combo installer.

Where you using SQL 8.3 before??
SQL 8.4 isn't compatible with 8.4, so you'll have to install SQL 8.3 again

You can download it from PostgreSQL: The world's most advanced open source database (http://www.postgresql.org)

Also the installer uses 8.4.1, you can download 8.4.5 from PostgreSQL: The world's most advanced open source database (http://www.postgresql.org) if you want to update a 8.4.x installation

I'm not really sure which version that was, but from what I remember, it's that version that comes in the combo installer.

I'm thinking of uninstalling HM and SQL from drive C, then reinstall them on drive J, using the combo installer. When things work on that side, I will then import hand history.

edit: This might take more time, but it's the easiest way I can think of. Sounds good?

If you want maybe we can do a teamviewer session to troubleshoot the problem, please email me with a suitable time to do the session and also the timezone your in. Should be an easy fix i just need to check a couple of logs to see whats going wrong

You could also just export and reinstall and reimport if you want to either but that might take much longer depending on the amount of hands

Thanks
