I have 2 databases in a partition that is 180gb. One database is 160gb the other is 15gb or so. I just bought a new ssd that is 180gb. I would like to start a brand new database on the SSD. How do I do this without having to move the old database? Also, I don't have another 180gb left on any of my hard drives for making back ups so that is why I would like a solution that does not involve making a huge back-up.

I have found the following post with similar questions but they don't directly answer this question:
Post 1 (http://forums.holdemmanager.com/3rd-party-programs-compatible-holdem-manager/16645-database-new-drive.html)
Post 2 (http://forums.holdemmanager.com/general-support/367341-copy-parent-folder-existing-database-new-hard-drive.html)

I would like to leave the old databases alone and just start using the SSD database exclusively.

1 - Do I need to reinstall postgress? (or will that make it easier)
2 - What settings do I need to change?
3 - Would re-installing HM1 on the SSD lead to a noticable performance boost?
4 - Any other suggestions for taking advantage of the SSD?

1/2. Yes, either reinstall a different version of PostgreSQL to the new SSD (for example PostgreSQL 9.0 on port 5433)
or edit your registry to redirect it to the location of your new database: http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/368/MoveDatabaseToAnotherHardDriveOrPartition

3. Ideally also install Windows/any important program to the SSD.
4. Read: General Windows 7 SSD Performance Tweaks guide (http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=63273)*
(don't disable hibernation!)
*Services to disable in that guide: don't disable Secondary Logon, Hibernation, SuperFetch

Thanks for the quick reply. I changed my registry to redirect postgress/HM to a new directory before and prefer to do that. Will I be able to just leave the old database on the old hard drive using this method? Because here (http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/368/MoveDatabaseToAnotherHardDriveOrPartition) you are supposed to copy and paste the old data folder into the new folder. But my old database is the size of the new SSD so I do not want to move that over.

Yes you can leave the old database on the old hard drive... but you won't be able to use the old database.
