Please try to download and install postgresql 8.4 from PostgreSQL: The world's most advanced open source database (http://www.postgresql.org). If that fails try version 8.3.

If that fails too please post the detailed error message.

That is strange, something seems to block the configuration file. Any other security software or something like that?

Can you try to install postgresql to another partition like D:?

So I decided to reformat my computer, installing as many updates and antivir etc before ever going online, still the same problem, I uninstalled the antivir ( Norton btw, has worked fine with hem in the past ) and shut down all firewalls etc and the problem remains the same. I dont know what to do here, I need hem to work... Could you help me over TV or something?

install SQL 9.0 to a different portnumber (for example 5433 instead of 5432)

If during installation it won't accept postgrespass as password: click on Start and go to Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt

* If you are on Vista, rightclick and choose "Run as Administrator".

A black box should appear. Type 'net user postgres /del' (without the quotes) and press enter.

The user is now deleted and you can (re)install PostgreSQL.
