This regularly happens to me as well (as detailed in an earlier post), usually occurring after longer sessions. My laptop fan is usually going crazy at this point so HEM2 is for some reason taking up all the CPU usage when the bug occurs.

A temporary 'fix' is to close HEM2 and restart, and then you get another hour or 2 before it does it again.

1) Go to C:\Program Files\Holdem Manager 2 (Program Files (x86) for the 64bit version)
2) Right click the HoldemManager.exe and choose "Properties".
3) Go to the Compatibility Tab and select "Run this program as an Administrator".
4) Repeat Steps 2 and 3 for HudFuncsApp.exe

5) Run a manual Windows Update and install all updates, including all .net framework updates.

6) Turn off User Account Control: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/12/30/how-to-disable-and-turn-off-uac-in-windows-7/]How to Disable and Turn Off UAC in Windows 7 « My Digital Life

I've done all your standard stuff and I sent you the log file before. I was told to update to the latest version. Problem still occurs.

I'm done helping on this matter. I just wanted you to know that more than one of us have this issue.

Update to 7651: http://forums.holdemmanager.com/hm2-releases/358141-2-0-0-7651-beta-release-feedback-thread-2nd-december.html

settings--> try turning off AUTO REFRESH, which currently is the main cause for performance issues.

I have exactly the same problem. I always have autorefresh turned off, so its defeinitely not the cause.

And imo its not really a performance issue. These freezes happen randomly. Usually notes open fine, even for players that i have 100k hands on+many notes, but it freezes when i try to make a note on an unknown player.

Thanks for getting in touch.

What we’re trying right now is to work with several people to narrow this down, if we have everyone try different things this will mean well track it much quicker without having to take up too much of 1 persons time.

What I’m hoping you can do on the next session is narrow down the most likely culprits. Can you play a session with the following disabled:

1 - Untick Auto Refresh - This can be found in Settings > General Settings
2 - Notecaddy - Even if you don’t own this you need to turn it off - Go to Hud Options - Untick "Show Notecaddy Notes" near the bottom right
3 - Live Tracking - Even if you dont use or play on a site that has this disable this by going to Hud Options > Site Options and untick everything in the live tracking section
4 - Hud Options - Config Properties > Always on top should be unticked
5 - What happens if you set the active player to a player that has just a small # of hands?

Now also make sure not to use your notes, hand viewer or replayer during play, go to aliases and choose any other alias that isnt a hero, maybe someone with just a handful of hands, then restart HM2 and when it opens on the home TAB please leave it there, do not go to any other TAB at all even just to check something quickly.

We really appreciate you taking the time to help us with this and understand that this is a big inconvenience, hopefully with your help and others well be able to narrow this down quickly and rest assured were giving this the highest priority

Please send responses to support@holdemmanager.com with a link to this thread.

Ok i`ll try that.

BTW i think theres something wrong with autorefresh setting. I have it always unticked but HM2 still refreshes all reports/graph every time i change date/filter etc. I dont see any difference between autorefresh on and off.

Well spotted. Given that the error occurs usually after longer sessions, this likely is related?

The problem still occurs even after unticking the following;
1, 3, 4 as stated below.

I can't see 2??: Notecaddy - Even if you don’t own this you need to turn it off - Go to Hud Options - Untick "Show Notecaddy Notes" near the bottom right

And I'm not doing 5.

Turn off show caddy notes, and turn off start caddy report on HUD launch.
Restart HM2 after you make these changes.

yep, thats always been unticked so the ticking specifically isn't the cause either.

......I just wanted you to know that more than one of us have this issue.

It is a known issue affecting multiple customers and we are doing extensive internal testing to try and find out what is causing it. Right now the only thing we can suggest are a few possible workarounds:

- disable auto refresh
- disable auto refresh and play from the home tab instead of the reports
- disable auto refresh, pick a non-hero with only a few hands, restart hm2, and play from the home tab.

One of those 3 things should eliminate the HUD Notes problems enough so that you can play your sessions and use the HUD notes while we work on a proper fix without having to restart HM every couple of hours.

.......5 - What happens if you set the active player to a player that has just a small # of hands?
......

.....

And I'm not doing 5.

As mentioned above, while this is obviously less than ideal it may be your best option for a workaround while we try and debug the cause of this problem and wait for the developers to implement a proper fix. I would think that is a better solution than having to restart HM2 every couple of hours or having the opening of notes cause extreme lag/problems.

Disabling auto refresh doesn't solve the problem.
I play from the home tab. It doesn't solve the problem.
Picking a non hero seems to result in showing less hands on villains. (because the database is finding hands non hero picked villain has played with other villains?)

None of these 3 things are a solution. The temporary solution is to shut hem2 down and restart hem2. Then you get another hour or 2 with it working better.

Thank you for the feedback. Picking a non-hero in the reports should not have any affect on the HUD data that is shown at the tables. The HUD uses the entire database regardless of which player you selected in the reports, assuming you are not using the HUD Filters or Tournament Filters to filter out some of the HUD data. The player selection in the reports is nothing more than a filter to determine what is shown in the reports and how many hands have to be loaded into memory.

ok, but how about "VS HERO" stats?

ok, but how about "VS HERO" stats?

The player selected in the Reports does not have any affect on the Vs Hero stats shown in the HUD. The 'hero' is marked in the postgresql database tables and the vs hero stats are created during import based on the actual hero marked in the database.

has there been any resolution on this? multiple times per session, I need to open task manager and shut down HEM2 so that I can actually click the buttons on my poker client. obviously this is a huge problem. when I do go into task manager, I usually see HEM2 eating up nearly 100% of my CPU.

specifically, this problem only happens minimum 1 hour into my session and it only occurs when I click on the HEM note icon. the longer I play, the more frequently this happens. shutting down HEM2 and starting it up again doesn't always help.

I also have significant lag when using the hand replayer but that is off-topic here.

I am just finding these problems to be really unacceptable, frankly. I know it is not an easy task to solve, but it has gotten to the point where I'm thinking of just rolling back to HEM1. the bells and whistles of HEM2 are nice but it's more important to have a program that doesn't lock up my client or one that doesn't take me an hour to review 10 hands in the replayer.

in fairness to you, I bought PT4 and found that to be even worse. it's really unfortunate that the new generation of poker tracking software performs so much worse than the prior generation.

with all that said, I appreciate your continual work toward making this program run the way it should.

Please make sure you are running HM2 as an administrator
1) Go to C:\Program Files\Holdem Manager 2 (Program Files (x86) for the 64bit version)
2) Right click the HoldemManager.exe and choose "Properties".
3) Go to the Compatibility Tab and select "Run this program as an Administrator".
4) Repeat Steps 2 and 3 for HudFuncsApp.exe

Add exceptions for HM2, PostgreSQL, and any other programs you use for poker to your firewall and anti-virus exceptions lists.

is not read only and that all permissions are set to full for your user name. The folder will continue showing read only after that, this is an issue in Windows.

Then please create a new database
http://hm2faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/1431/How+is+a+new+database+created+in+Holdem+Manager+2% 3F

and reimport the hands from the c:\HM2Archive folder.
http://hm2faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/81/Options+%7B47%7D+Hand+Importing+%7B47%7D+Manual+Ha nd+Importing

All original hands that are auto-imported into HM2 get moved to an archive for performance reasons. Your \HM2Archive is in C:\HM2Archive by default, but you may have put it anywhere.

In 4 months it will have been one YEAR since this problem was reported for the first time and it hasn't been fixed yet.

How likely is that it won't be fixed by the end of July?

In 4 months it will have been one YEAR since this problem was reported for the first time and it hasn't been fixed yet.

How likely is that it won't be fixed by the end of July?

This issue is much better in the latest release.

The original ticket on this issue is:

HM-6389
Opening HUD Notes window causes lag with large Alias/hero selected in Reports

For me this would take 20+ seconds for my 2 million hand alias. In the latest release it takes me 5 - 7 seconds the first time for the same alias but all subsequent clicks are instant until you restart HM2 and then it takes 5 - 7 seconds again the first time. The new ticket on this issue is:

HM-6549
Notes take 5-7 secs to load first note

I can't give an estimate how long it will take to resolve the remaining issues with this but hopefully it won't take too much longer now to reduce the remaining lag.
