- Please see these steps to fix postgresql connection issues:

http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/91/Can't+Connect+%7B47%7D+Failed+to+Start+PostgreSQL+

- Please make sure that you have allowed postgres and pg_ctl in your firewall and antivirus exceptions. They are in postgres\bin.

- Please update windows fully. Please keep checking until it shows twice five minutes apart that there are no more updates.

- Please update your network adapter. Open device manager and find the model #. Search google for the model # drivers to download.

- Please run the windows repair on your winsock:

How to determine and to recover from Winsock2 corruption in Windows Server 2003, in Windows XP, and in Windows Vista (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811259)

I have uninstalled all anti-virus and disabled windows firewall & defender

I downloaded the version of HEM provided in link

I stopped and started postgres

UAC is off

Windows 7 is up to date

I've run repairs on my winsock

The worst thing that could happen is I lose hands

If I could get a skype / teamviewer session, that would be great

Thanks

This is usually a firewall or windows update issue.

First try to reboot.

If no help, try this:

Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Stop Service

Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Start Service

If that doesnt help delete the \postgresql\8.x\data\postmaster.pid file, if you see it. And reboot.

If that doesn't help you will have to reinstall PostgreSQL completely.
(just reinstall PostgreSQL, and it should still be able to connect to the old database)

After reinstalling postgres

"error creating stat ranges xml file: access to the path 'C:Program Files (x86)\RVG Software\Hold em Manager\Config\StatsRanges.xml' is denied

Seems like this would be a firewall thing? I'm relatively clueless with computers but my firewall / defender seem to be disabled and I completely uninstalled mcafee / norton

Did you also reinstall Holdemmanager?
Did you install the full version or only the update?

Under Vista and Windows 7 make sure that holdemmanager.exe, hmhud.exe and dbcontrolpanel.exe are started as administrator. Run the windows explorer and navigate to your Holdemmanager installation directory. Right click the holdemmanager.exe, dbcontrolpanel.exe and the hmhud.exe executable and select "Run as admin" from the popup menu under compatibility tab.

I unchecked Holdemmanager during installation, and I installed what would be in the the download

Windows > run > holdemmanager.exe windows cannot find it, the same can be said for the rest of them.

I as well can't manually find them.

Install PostgreSQL 8.2 to port 5433: hhttp://ftp.postgresql.org/pub/binary/v8.2.22/win32/postgresql-8.2.22-1.zip
Read: http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/91/Can%27tConnect%7B47%7DFailedToStartPostgreSQL , and http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/70/ReinstallPostgreSQL

Then run dbcontrolpanel.exe from the Program Files(x86)/RVG Software/HoldemManager folder.

Change the port to 5433 (in Database Management--> Connect--> Create New Database--> (set it as default)--> Start HoldemManager)

Uninstalling McAfee is not enough. It leaves some files in system and they can interfere even if "main" program is uninstalled.
You should use a special removal tool "MCPR" located in the deep of McAfee site, see this text there:
How to uninstall or reinstall supported McAfee products using the Consumer Products Removal tool (MCPR) (http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=TS101331)
