It has been working great for the past year, and now out of the blue when i start it the loading pop"initializing database" up shows and then in 2 seconds disappears with no error pop ups or anything like that.

This is the only relevant thing i found in the FAQ section FAQ - Hold'em Manager Poker Tracking Software :: HEM Doesn't Start/Core Features Stopped Working (http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/32/HEM+Doesn%27t+Start%7B47%7DCore+Features+Stopped+W orking)

and it doesn't help in my situation. My OS is windows xp 64 bit.

Just a few thoughts - not sure how relevant...

Did you know that only about 1% of XP users are 64bit ?
Can you check windows updates & get smack up-to-date please

After updating ~ what Service Pack & .NET are you ?
[I think the latest SP on 64bit is SP2]

No harm in trying this...

Can you try to run the "dbcontrolpanel.exe" file manually from the Holdem Manager folder ?
You can find it at "C:\Program Files (x86)\RVG Software\Holdem Manager"

This launches the control panel dialog. Click 'connect' button in the panel & then click the 'Start Holdem Manager' button in the next screen

You need XP service pack 3 for HM to run.

it seems there is no service pack 3 for 64 bit, and i broke my computer with some bad update now damn it.

I checked it, you are right. XP 64 bit is based on windows server 2003. So there is no service pack 3 available or necessary.

Is your Postgresql service running?
Can you connect via pgadmin?

Sorry.. I meant connect to the postgres server in pgadminIII-->
if you CAN connect it means the SQL server is properly running.
