Dear HM,

my HDD crashed, but I can rescue (almost) all my data.
How should I proceed regarding my database?

I used the autoinstaller on my old HDD to install my database. (no idea where it stores it)
But I could also make a new database and use HMarchive folder to re-import right?

Is there a guide for this kind of situation?
Thanks in advance,

Mark

Hi Mark

My thoughts: - Why do you think it crashed ? Maybe you should cure the cause of the crash before anything else ?
If the crash occurred while HM was 'talking' to your postgreSQL DB you could have problems now with a corrupt DB
Do you still have an HMArchive where your raw HH's are kept ?
Do you have HM notes etc to save ?

Thanks for the quick response loki !

My HDD crashed just because it's defective/broken.
I got 2 new one's so I should be OK now.
I don't think HM was "talking" to postgresql at the time
I have the archive.
HM notes are not that important to me, but I did have some.

I'll read those guides soon, THANKS

Hi Mark

Quick question ? The questions are often quick, but the answers...

If you want postgreSQL installed on C:\ along with your other programs & your OS, but you want your data folder (DB) on your external hard drive

###
This is what I would do:

1] Install everything as normal on C:\

then...

2] Move the data folder across to the external drive like this:
>> FAQ - Hold'em Manager Poker Tracking Software :: Move Database to Another Hard Drive or Partition (http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/368/Move+Database+to+Another+Hard+Drive+or+Partition)

###
NOTES: This is probably NOT the most tech savvy way to get what you want, but it does mean you can use the 90MB combo installer on the downloads page & you don't have to think much until you get to step 2]

step 2] looks easy - trust me I'm a Doctor :D
