Upgraded Version of BitDefender. Old V deleted, new one loaded rather than update. Added the following exceptions as I had before. Works with AV off doesnt with it on. Can't find additional steps to try.

When I open HEM the Message is: The following error occurred when trying to open the database: Unable to read data from the transport connection. An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host

•C:\Program Files\RVG Software\Holdem Manager\Holdem Manager.exe
•C:\Program Files\RVG Software\Holdem Manager\HMHud.exe
•C:\Program Files\RVG Software\Holdem Manager\DBControlPanel.exe
•C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\8.x\bin\pg_ctl.exe
•C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\8.x\bin\postgres.exe

Please contact bitdefender support. We have no further experience with this.

Thanks for nothing.

Anyone else from HEM have any suggestions. I found an faq related to the issue that told me to stop and then start PostgreSQL.This worked until I rebooted and then the same issue happens. I struggle with the search option so it takes a while looking through all the sections, so if there are any other related faq's to run through I'd be glad for a link.

I can work around it by turning off the AV while booting HEM but I'd rather find the problem and exclude it or resolve it if possible.

Hi Belizebeach

IMO Karsten is absolutely right
You could try posting here:
>>> BitDefender Forum -> BitDefender 2010 Products (http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?showforum=190)

###
I was amused by the lescannon post here:
3 licenses of BitDefender Total Security 2010 Giveaway Limited License Freebies Forums | dotTech (http://dottech.org/forums/limited-license-freebies/3-licenses-of-bitdefender-total-security-2010-giveaway)

And this is worth a read:
Dodgy BitDefender update bricks systems ? The Register (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/03/22/bitdefender_dodgy_update/)

A mate of mine gave up on BitDefender because it kept 'zapping' his FireFox plugins (but, he wouldn't know how to stop this happening)

I think your problems may possibly be related to the 'Active Virus Control' feature
>>> BitDefender - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BitDefender)

Incorporated in the 2010 product suites, BitDefender introduced another technology, Active Virus Control, in August 2009... continuously monitors each program (specific processes) running on the PC, as it executes, and it notes any malware-like actions. Each of these actions is scored and when a given threshold is reached, the process is reported as harmful. Unlike heuristic technologies that check executable files when they are accessed or first started, Active Virus Control monitors everything applications do as long as they are active. Because of this approach, Active Virus Control is considered a third layer of defense###

OK perhaps it is this program although I can switch the AV back on once HEM is open and it works fine so it doesnt appear to be the continual monitoring and I presume one file that can be given an exception to avoid this.

I must say while HEM is a superb piece of s/ware this is seemingly the second time HEM have decided my problem isn't theirs and washed their hands of it - the first still happening where I can have the same player on two different tables with totally different hand sample numbers and stats yet no filters set to affect it.

BITDEFENDER
This is one of many AV progs & they all have their own quirks. It's an AV problem & you should talk to them because it's impossible to offer effective advice if the AV program isn't in the experience of the support team

The forum I pointed out is your second best option
The option I would explore is a different AV, but that's just IMO

DIFFERENT HAND SAMPLES:

This thread ?

Did you do the below & what came of it ?

Please update to the latest version - http://www.holdemmanager.net/hmupdate

Are there problems importing hands or just with the HUD?

Please reproduce the problem and post a screen shot - Capture a Screen Shot of your Desktop or the Active Window in Windows (http://graphicssoft.about.com/cs/general/ht/winscreenshot.htm)

with the following:

1) The table manager
2) The tables (including one with no stats)
3) The ...handhistory\screenname folder.
4) The "\rvg software\holdem manager\importing\hud data" folder. I also need you to zip and email any files in this folder to me at fozzy@holdemmanager.net with a link to this thread.

Please make 3 and 4 the detailed view with the dates and file sizes etc.

To attach it to a thread in the forums, look below the post reply button when you start a new thread and you'll see a manage attachments button. Click this and attach the file.

Yes. I had one of the tech guys spend hours on several teamviewer sessions and he was stumped. He saw the problem but couldn't fix it tried everything he knew. I ended up sending him my database for him to recreate the problem on his PC and he couldn't and gave up in the end.

What AV software do you use/recomend. I run Windows Vista Home on a PC 3G RAM AMD Athlon 64 Dual Core Processor 5000+ 2.6GHz

Vista ? Hate Vista :) Was the 'tech guy' using Vista ?

Avira Antivir + ThreatFire (they complement each other & they are resource-light )
Explained in boring detail here with links:

###
Make sure to utterly remove BitDefender & reboot before installing an alternative. Important to get it all out
You need to stop all the BitDefender processes to uninstall well & I reckon use the removal tool...
