Hi,
I did a full restore on my computer so needed to reinstall HEM.

I followed the FAQ steps for the backup and retore using this link FAQ - Hold'em Manager Poker Tracking Software :: Backup & Restore Database (http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/72/Backup+%26+Restore+Database) I restored the files into a new database like it said, but when I opened holdemmanager, my HUD and HEM wouldnt display any information from my old database.
So I deleted the new database and tried it again but this time restored the files into the database called holdemmanager but of course that didnt work either.
After reading the FAQ's again it clearly says not to do this since it will corrupt the file and duplicate hands. Im not sure how to procede from here.

Im wondering how to get this corrected and also get the info from the old database to showup in HEM and my HUD.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

It took me a bit of searching to find out what the file you sent was for. You didn't send any other email or any reference information.

What version of postgresql did you use to create this backup and what version are you trying to restore it into? It MUST be the same EXACT version of postgresql or it will not work.

If your old installation for HM and PostgreSQL was from last year you most likely have postgresql 8.3 that was sent in our ZIP file.

1) Uninstall PostgreSQL from the Windows Control Panel.
2) run the command - start > programs > accessories > command prompt > right-click > run as administrator

net user postgres /delete
4) reboot.
5) Download and UnZip this file to a new folder. http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/postgresql.zip
6) Then run the postgresql-8.3.msi file and follow these instructions - FAQ - Hold'em Manager Poker Tracking Software :: Reinstall PostgreSQL (http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/70/Reinstall+PostgreSQL)

Now you should be able to restore your backup of a 8.3 DB.

If your PostgreSQL was installed using our combo installer you have 8.4.1.1.

I followed the steps above but still having problems. First im not sure if postgres is restoring my database. It took less than a second before the restore process ends with an error. After that when I go into holdemmangaer my old info isnt there. I see the new database i created in postgres. But when i go into holdemmanager, the information showing in there is from the database named holdemmanger. If I try to switch it to the "new databse" holdemmanager tells me i can only use a holdemmanager database.

hey guys, it looks like i have a similar problem.

Here are some photos of the steps that i am taking, with no success:

http://img836.imageshack.us/img836/7672/restore1.png (http://img836.imageshack.us/i/restore1.png/)

Uploaded with ImageShack.us (http://imageshack.us)

So i choose the backupfile that i saved (note that i had to go into "All files" in order to see the file...)

http://img688.imageshack.us/img688/3913/restore2.png (http://img688.imageshack.us/i/restore2.png/)

Uploaded with ImageShack.us (http://imageshack.us)

It takes about 3-5 minutes before finishing and then i click cancel (to avoid duplicating files, as written in the FAQ)

http://img824.imageshack.us/img824/6872/restore3.png (http://img824.imageshack.us/i/restore3.png/)

Uploaded with ImageShack.us (http://imageshack.us)

Then i go into HoldemManager and i cant view any files under any screen names. I also clicked auto import (just to see if that helped) but it didnt.

p.s. I am trying to email my backup file to support@holdemmanager.com, just incase it is helpful, but the file seems too big? ... The email name is "Michael Bannar-Martin (Restoring Problems)" (if i can send it)

pp.s. i am running postgres 8.4 at the moment but i am not 100% sure what my previous hard drive was running on. I assume it is the same though because my laptop also runs on 8.4 (i could be wrong though)

please, let me know if you want me to do any other tests to get to the bottom of this.
