Error: Sorry, could not install PostgreSQL

Hi,

I have just installed windows 7 and I'm trying to get HEM installed. I downloaded the latest version:
Download Full Installer - 80MB (1.11.02b) 2010-06-24
(First Time Install Only)

I have disabed UAC and my Firewall (I also have restarted windows after that). At the end of the installation I get this error:

After that I see in top of the installation program the next message:
Installation Aborted
Setup was not completed succesfully.

And I can only press the Cancel button.

What must I do :confused:

The secondary logon service is a standard windows service which is available on every windows computer. In the latest versions it is not started automatically. You need to start it via control panel > administrative tools > services. Starting it once should insure it works in the future also.

I've started the secondory logon service, but then with the combo installer it still fails to install, and gives the same error message again.

After that I downloaded the 1 click 8.4 Installer from Postgres.org, I start installation and during the installation it needs a password, so I fill in: postgrespass
And i get this error:
The password specified was incorrect. Please enter the correct password for the postgres windows user account.

THere is also an option to don't fill in a password. if the account does not exist, it will be created when you click 'Next". So I don't fill anything and i get this message:
You must enter a password to continue

So, what's my next option?

Also when I uninstall postgreSQL (after the install fails), I get this 2 messages before uninstalling happens:

I had the same issue and this is how I resolved it. go into your postgressql service and go to properties/log on as. I could not get a single user account to be able to start the service. Finally I choose local system and tried to start the service and everything worked. I did check the host file and all the other stuff (av, fw, ports...) before trying this. I also used a password for postgres that meets windows security standards and my user account on the system as postgres user (administrative). Good luck!

Did all of this, but when I install postgres it get stuck. The installer is stuck at this part for 10 minutes now:

The harddisk is empty, it's a fresh Win 7 installation.

The folders created during the installation where/are being made.

I don't know what you mean by creating it manually, but I just created a 8.2 folder as a test in Program Files > PostgreSQL and that worked, so I'm able to make folders etc in the Program Files folder.

IT WORKS ! THis is what happened ot what I did:

I just said "F'it" and reinstalled Win 7, I only had full tilt poker installed and nothing else.

-When Win7 started I downloaded and installed al the Windows Updates, restarted, again windows update and restart (until there where no more updates'. After that I did my videocard drivers. Restarted again.
-Then I made the Secondary Logon service starting automatic in control panel > administrative tools > services.
-Then I disabled UAC and my Firewall (don't know if disabling firewall is neccesary) and restarted.
-After restart checked if secondary logon service was started and UAC was off and my firewall was off, all was as i wanted.
-Then Run as Administrator and hoping it would work and then: TADA !!!!! it worked somehow.

So thanks support for the advice. I have no clue why or what was different this time, but somehow it is fixed. :)

Congratz!!! It seems between creating the data directory for postgresSQL and the security settings for the account trying to connect to the DB, the newer OS and security hardening can get in the way. Enjoy!

The secondary logon service is a standard windows service which is available on every windows computer. In the latest versions it is not started automatically. You need to start it via control panel > administrative tools > services. Starting it once should insure it works in the future also...
** It's set as 'Manual' in Win7 right ? Isn't that enough to for it to be invoked when required by a program ?
** Could a 'message' be made to appear in the combo build explaining about 'secondary logon' ?
** Failing that can't there be instructions about this on the HM Download page as well as info regarding minimum .NET etc etc ?
