View Full Version : Problem with HEM setup

I cannot get HEM to work for the first time. I have been working on this for 5 hrs. HEM is showing me a msg that says "Auto update did not find any new files... Trying again in 5 seconds..." The message does not change.

The table manager 1.11.2 window shows the name of the table I have opened on Pokerstars. I have Windows 7. I read the sticky and gave admin privileges to the HEM files. I also did the same for the exe files for PostgreSql and Pokerstars. I turned on the secondary login. I turn off UAC and the windows firewall. I setup Poker Stars so that hand historys are going to the same folder that HEM is checking. Hand history are being saved, and in English. I setup the windows firewall so that HEM, PostgreSql, and Pokerstars have complete access. I also turned off hidden files.

I tried to test something out that my help in diagnosing the problem. In my normal hand history folder, it has another folder that uses my screen name. So, I tried setting up a new folder on my desktop called hand history. When I updated dated the information on Poker Stars to this new folder, it did not create a new folder with my screen name.

What else can I try to get this working? I am trying to set this up for cash games.

I do not see the HUD. I tried using the default folder for hand history, but I moved it to the desktop for testing purposes. I am playing 10nl.

Most probably it's to do with the way you've set up (or changed) the paths of the various folders

I tried the first three links already. I could not get a HUD. I was able to use some old hand histories. I put some in the hand history folder, and imported them. I could view the files in HEM. I think my problem has something to do with Poker Stars instant hand history being sent to the hand history folder on my desktop. Does HEM have anything to do with prompting PS so that it sends hand history to my folder? I have followed all of the instructions from HEM and PS. I have turned off UAC, Firewall, Avast, and gave full permission.

Maybe you need some more background info. I had Poker Tracker 3 and it was working today. Today I tried to upgrade my PostgreSql and Poker Tracker. Too make a long story short, I did a lot of deleting, uninstalling, restoring, and reinstalling. Eventually Poker Tracker 3 did not work. I decided to delete PostgreSql and try installing HEM. When I installed HEM I used the full installation with PostgreSql 8.4. I think the database is working fine now. I even checked to see that the folder had full security privileges. What could be blocking PS from sending the instant hand history from going to my folder?

Can you talk in terms of paths ? It's easier for me at this time in the UK :)

Assuming for now that postgreSQL is OK... Try this:

####################
IN THE POKERSTARS CLIENT:
####################

PokerStars Lobby menu bar > Options > Instant Hand History Options... > The 'Hand History Options' Dialog box pops up
In that pop-up:
1] Check the 'Save My Hand History' box
2] Left-click the 'Change Folder...' button & browse to the folder you've set up for PS to save your HH (Which you have put on the desktop right ?)
Why can't you just leave it at C:\Program Files\PokerStars\HandHistory\ ?
3] left-click 'OK' & save

####################
IN THE HEM SOFTWARE
####################

Point HM at where you have put the PokerStars HH (The desktop folder ?) which is usually C:\Program Files\PokerStars\HandHistory\

You do that like this:

Select Options / Configure Auto Import Folders from the Holdem Manager Options dropdown menu. You should be presented with the following screen. This screen may be blank. The Current Import Folders on this screen shows all of my Auto-Import folders.

http://1.2.3.11/bmi/faq.holdemmanager.com/images/configure-auto-import-02.jpg

If you don't see your Hand History Path listed, click the Add Folder button (so in YOUR CASE that's the desktop folder that you set up in the PokerStars lobby) .

http://1.2.3.10/bmi/faq.holdemmanager.com/images/configure-auto-import-01.jpg

The above screen shows the Full-Tilt Poker client. If you are not setting this up for for Full Tilt, add the Hand History Path for your Poker Client. (http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/1/General+Information+About+Setting+Up+Poker+Clients #Poker%20Sites)
Check the Import for Sub Folders? checkbox if it's not already checked.
Add an Archive Folder. This allows you to save your hand histories to a different part of your hard drive because poker clients automatically delete hand histories after a while.
Click Save.

Now when you click Auto Import, Holdem Manager will constantly be scanning these folders we just setup for new hand histories. If everything is setup correctly your HUD should be working and importing hands to your database

If the previous post doesn't do the trick...
Follow the steps in this FAQ:
FAQ - Hold'em Manager Poker Tracking Software :: My HUD Doesn't Work (http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/48/My+HUD+Doesn%27t+Work)

###
If that doesn't do the trick, then

1] Attach your "HoldemManager.config" file to your post
You will find it located here:
"C:\Program Files\RVG Software\Holdem Manager\Config\HoldemManager.config"
NOTE: It may be just called HoldemManager if you've got extensions hidden in your windows folder options

2] Answer these 10 standard questions

What version of Holdem Manager are you using?
What poker site are you playing on and does the problem occur on more than one site?
Which type of game(s) are you playing? (NL, FL, Omaha, SnGs, MTT)
Have you clicked on the Start Auto Import button?
Often times, it is one setting or option that's not correct in your poker client. Please see our Detailed FAQs (http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/1/Information+About+Setting+Up+Poker+Clients) on configuring Holdem Manager to work with poker sites to make sure your poker site is saving Hand History files.
Check to see if the hand histories are showing up in the folder that you configured in HM to auto import from
If you think the hands are importing the please go to the reports TAB, select your username and run a report with all filters off to confirm they have imported.
If the hand histories show up in the auto import folders, but they're not importing into the database, please create a new database and try importing some hands to test if it's a corrupt database. FAQ - Hold'em Manager Poker Tracking Software :: Create / Delete Database (http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/75/Create+%7B47%7D+Delete+Database)
Have you tried the Table Finder and did it work? FAQ - Hold'em Manager Poker Tracking Software :: Configuring Table Finder to Show HUD (http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/60/Configuring+Table+Finder+to+Show+HUD+)
If you open the hand history files, are they written in English?

Thanks for the help. I changed the hand history folder to the default folder PS created. I have Win 7 pro 64-bit so it might be different from what you have. Btw, I am good w/ computers. I used to work at a technical help desk. I have been working on hardware and software since 1990. I am going to sleep now. It is 1am.

This is the address for my folder and I updated the info on PS and HEM:

C:\Program Files (x86)\PokerStars\hand history

P.S. It did not work. I opened 2 tables of $2nl on PS. The names of the tables showed up on table manager, but nothing was imported into the folder listed above.

P.S.S. For some reason my Windows XP laptop is having no problems. My laptop is using poker tracker. PS is importing and Poker tracker is updating the HUD.

I wasn't making remarks about your skills ~ I'm crap at computers :)

You didn't say if you got a HUD, but I guess you didn't
As you know the HH's don't stay in the C:\Program Files (x86)\PokerStars\hand history folder for long

So just possibly that's why you can't see them there. Look in C:\HMArchive & see if $2NL hands you just played have been archived there from the PokerStars\hand history folder
Also does anything appear in your HM reports tab ? (make sure to select your user name & clear all filters)

Please attach your "HoldemManager.config" file

Thanks Loki for your assistance. You have been more helpful than I would have been. I got the following response from PS. I hope this works.

"Thank you for your email and for allowing us to be of assistance.

There are known causes of hand histories not saving to disk. If the "Save My
Hand Histories" is activated and your hand histories are not getting saved
to the folder specified, below are some suggestions that should solve your
problem:

1. Change Folder Destination

It is possible that the folder where you are trying to save the files is
write protected (Program Files folder is often protected). To fix this,
simply go back to the Instant Hand History Options and set the folder to "My
Documents" or similar folder outside of the Program Files folder.

2. Your Configuration File is Corrupted

To fix this one, simply go to Help -> Open My Settings Folder. Then close
PokerStars, and in the newly opened folder, locate the file named "user" (or
"user.ini"). Right click on it, and select Rename. Name it "user.old" and
then press Enter to confirm the change. Please note that renaming this file
will revert all user defined options to their default setting and you will
need to reset those options.

You should have no further troubles. However, if these suggestions do not
solve your problem please let us know and we will gladly provide further
assistance.

We would like to remind you that all real money hand histories are archived
and can be requested via the client "Requests" menu or by requesting them
directly from support. If you are missing hands please specify the
information required and we will be happy to provide your missing hands. "

MikeJones
07-18-2010, 02:37 PM
No it is not fixed yet. I am in the middle of troubleshooting w/ PS. I will update the post later today.

Do you play at PS and or Full Tilt? Have you been playing lately?

PokerStars 12 hours ago. No problems. Why ?

Have you seen who made the final table at the WSOP? I cannot wait to see where Michael Mizrachi finishes. I was hoping Johnny Chan would make it to the final table. I saw him at the Bellagio last year playing in Bobby's Room.

Thanks for all the help Loki!

Mike,

Make sure the Hand History files are being written to your Hard Drive by manually looking in the folder you told PS or FTP to save them to after a hand completes. If the files are being written, you can cross out the poker client not saving the Hand History files as a problem.
Make sure Holdem Manager Auto Import Folders are set to scan that folder you setup in the poker client. The folder we just manually checked to see if hand histories are there.

Give us a report back. If this doesn't work feel free to PM me and we'll setup a quick Team Viewer session to get you going.
