HUD is slowing down pop-up when 20-tabling @ stars.
Already did vacuum analyze.

DB is 1.000 K hands. Didn't change config.

Any ideas?

Hi,

Can you make sure your Opacity slider in Hud options > Player Preferences> Appearance TAB is 100% to the right and also do the same for the mucked cards Opacity

Also keep task manager running and have it sort by CPU in the Processes TAB and see what is using the most CPU when the lagging happens.

Try disabling as many programs as possible such as AHK scripts,Firewall, limewire,Mikogo etc and Antiviruses and if they cant be disabled make sure you add all these programs to the exceptions list such as HMhud.exe,DBcontrol panel.exe and holdemmanager.exe from the Holdem Manager folder aswell as any of the other programs that happen to be running, sometimes for example the antivirus/firewall etc scan every file thats been processed and it can slow things down so running with as few programs as possible.

Also going to control panel > Admin Tools > Event Viewer and copy and paste any description if there are any error or information events that coincide with the time of the lagging.

Go to Hud Options > Site Options and disable all the prefetch/track live hands options

Lastly make sure your graphics driver is up to date as this can make a big difference to lagging even with a brand new PC.

Everything done, no imrovement at all.

I have a Dell Latitude E6400, Intel Core 2 Duo P8600(2,40GHz,1066MHz,3MB), Memory : 4096MB (2x2048) 800MHz DDR2 Dual Channel, 160GB 7200rpm Hard drive, Windows Vista.

Is it possible that this is simply too weak for running a 1 Mio. hands db?

20 tables is a lot on a machine like this. I don't think there is anything we can do about it.

Just for a test: if you start with a new empty database - does it work better?

What hardware requirements are needed to 20-table smoothly?

Hi Bruce

I,000,000 hands ? These are recent hands ? You haven't purged & just kept the stats ?

###
11 months ago 'funkyworms' @ 2+2 did this test:
>> Netbook + HEM + HUD + 20 Stars Tables - Page 2 - Computer Technical Help - Software and Hardware Forum (http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/48/computer-technical-help/netbook-hem-hud-20-stars-tables-551844/index2.html)

** Using this kit:
>> Dell Inspiron Mini 9 Review (http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=4578) running XP
[Single core 1.6GHz N270, 16GB SSD, 1GB RAM, Intel GMA 950 Integrated Graphics]

...
Software: Pokerstars v3.158**, Holdem Manager 1.09 beta 23a***, PostgreSQL 8.3.7.1

Experiment: Load up 9-max Stars tables until I experience lag or reach 20 tables. Then play 20 minute session and record vital stats. Ran the test with tiled layout for 10 minutes, then stacked layout for 10 minutes.

Conclusion: Netbook handled 20 tables with no lag. CPU usage never exceeded 35%. Total Physical RAM usage never exceeded 400mb. No performance difference in stacked/tiled layouts.

Notes:
* I did make my standard Windows optimization tweaks that I do to all of my computers such as disabling: Indexing Service, Restore Service, Themes, and unnecessary startup items.

** I disabled animation, sound, and player images in the PokerStars client.

*** All settings in HEM were left at the default. My database had 0 hands at the start of the experiment...###
I am not a computer nerd - so I will put it plain & I will be happy to be corrected by more knowledgeable heads

1. Vista is crap. Go back to XP or forward to Win7
2. SSD is the bees knees if you use it right
3. small & tight database (do you really needs hands older than 3 months ? Can't you purge what's left & just keep the stats ?)
4. Optimise OS, HM, postgreSQL & PokerStars
5. You don't need Antivirus & malware detection while only on PokerStars
6. Get a 2nd machine for watching porn & emailing while you play poker on the main machine

OMG, I'm such an idiot. I always meant purging hands means they are deleted and doesn't keep the stats!

I purge them now of course it it runs well again.

Thx, Loki, IOU some drinks!

Thanks Bruce: The Nigerian bottled Guinness 'Foreign Extra' Stout (7.5% ABV) is my tipple :)

NOTE: SSD = Win7 (not Vista)

after the purge

did you...

reboot ?
vacuum analyse full ?
reindex ?
Defrag ? [first stopping postgreSQL service & closing as many progs as possible]
reboot ?

If its the same with a empty database its not HM related, i think its a problem of your computer.
