Hey guys,
so I decided to purge some hands. I chose the one where you keep the stats. Deleted like 5,5 mil hands, but only freed up like 3-4 gb of space ( gotta be way more I think). I did the manual vacuum. Any thoughts? ( There are 2 databases to chose from. One is holdemmanager, one is postgres. I think the one I am using is holdemmanager, so I vacuumed that one)

Hi, try rebooting your PC, sometime you need to reboot to fully reclaim the space

uhm, already did that. Nada :-(
I remeber when importing all those hands, it took up a tremendous amount of space, like 25 GB or sth like that.

Please check the subfolder pg_log of your holdemmanager installation path. You can delete all files in this folder.
To disable this logging permanently: Want to stop Postgre from creating those large log files, here's how - Holdem Manager Forums (http://www.holdemmanager.net/forum/showthread.php?t=8423)

If this gives no additional space you should defrag your harddisk (but stop the postgresql service before running this).

pg_log is empty and already defragged using defraggler.
:-/
where did all my space go? weird

Have a look in User/AppData/Local/temp, anything in there?

What is the size of your postgresql data folder and how many hands do you have in your database?

30 GB and it says 8,9 mil hands. hm.

There is no chance to compress your postgresql database more except deleting more hands.
Actually 30 GB is not much for 8.9 Mio hands.

Thx for your reply.
Well I'd say that i prolly played sth like 1,5 mio hands. The rest must be imported hands (mined).
I tred deleting all datamined hands without losing the stats. Is is normal that it takes forever before it says sth like " there are xxxx hands to delete, would yu like to dlete them now?" and when i click yes, it only takes 1 second to complete.

yes thats the normal procedure for the observed handhistories purge.
If you use options->settings->purge hands it works different.

Okay. I am gonna try to purge all of them again (except the ones played by me). I imported about 890k hands yesterday, which took up sth like 4gb, so it should free up at least that. I am gonna run the that one query afterwards, to see if it actually deleted any hands.

Thx for ur help btw.

Hi,
okay it said 2,2mil hands for deletion. So I clicked yes. Then did the Vacuum, Analyse thing. Rebooted. Only freed up 3,3gb. that seems to be really not much for 2,2mil hands.

The stats etc. stay in the database.

If you really want a smaller database you need to create a new one and reimport only the hands you like to have in this database. After completion you can delete the old database via pgadminIII.

But i think its easier to buy a bigger harddisk

But do the stats really take up that much space?
I just ran that query again, and it says 9,8 million hands now. It seems that it doesnt delete any, when I actually delete them.
the data folder is now at 33gb

Its not only the stats, its players, results and indexes to find the data and and ....
The database needs a lot of space.

In general i recommend to calculate with 10GB hdd space for 1 million hands.

so if i wanna free up some space, I need to use the real purge right?

This is the only way to do a 'real purge' & also you get tighter & faster DB:

If you really want a smaller database you need to create a new one and reimport only the hands you like to have in this database. After completion you can delete the old database via pgadminIII.

Suggestions:
** You need to have at least 10% of your HDD free for it to work well without the extra space your defragger can't optimise your files
** Do you have system restore points you can delete ?
** Can you burn any video stuff to a DVD & delete it off the HDD ?
** Same for still image files etc
** Mined hands & mined stats older than 3 months are worthless usually
