View Full Version : Installing HEM and SQL is a Herculean feat

I have lost count of the number of failed attempts to install HEM and PostgreSQL on my new PC (W7 64 bit). When trying to run the combined installer, it says it couldn't install SQL. When I try to install a version of SQL afterwards, it doesn't work, no matter which version I try. One version can't get past the step in install where it creates the data directory, another one doesn't state what goes wrong, etc.

And after every attempt, I run Revo installer, and scan and remove afterwards.

My latest attempt was running the combined installer, unchecking SQL, and then trying to manually run the 8.3.9 installer. But it still pauses at \PostgreSQL\8.3\data

Why is installing this software so HARD?

Probably because of your system configuration.

Are you using windows defender? Please remove it.

Any security, tuning or firewall software installed?
Please remove it or configure it: FAQ - Hold'em Manager Poker Tracking Software :: Software Security Problems (Firewall) (http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/339/Software+Security+Problems+%28Firewall%29)

If you can't figure it out please schedule a remote support session with our support. Email support@holdemmanager.net, with a link to this thread and your forum name, so we can setup a Teamviewer (http://www.holdemmanager.net/teamviewer) session.

I have now disabled Windows Defender, I also disabled Avira. Same problem.

Will schedule a support session.

Deactivate is not enough.

Please uninstall Windows Defender completely. There is no reason to use it. It is out-dated and replaced by Microsoft Security essentials. And the latest updates have a problem with postgresql.

So it's still running, despite being stopped? That doesn't sound right.

Anyway, regarding that last sentence, do you mean the latest windows updates? Or the latest HEM releases?

Windows update. Most 3rd party firewalls still block even when in disabled mode.

If you want we can do a teamviewer session to troubleshoot what causes this, it seems to be happening a lot recently and id like to try and find a solution, its a postgreSQL issue but id still like to solve it

If you dont have time for it, this version should work Please try this version PostgreSQL: Choose a Mirror (http://wwwmaster.postgresql.org/download/mirrors-ftp/binary/v8.2.17/win32/postgresql-8.2.17-1.zip)

I got en e-mail reply for scheduling a teamviewer session, so I'll make one more attempt with the version you posted first, and if that doesn't work - go through with teamviewer. Thank you for everything so far!
