Hello

After having some problems with loading hands in the sessions and reports tab (it took forever) I had the following idea, could someone please tell me if this is possible...

-I make a back-up of my current database and save it on my desktop
-I totally uninstall HEM (do I have to uninstall postgress too) and reinstall it
-Then I load my database into the new HEM (I dont know how this works, could someone please tell me)
-And then hopefully my HEM works perfectly again

The reason I dont just uninstall and reinstall hem and reimport the hands is that I bought a load of hand history this year and I played a lot of hands that I probably cant find (and so cant import)..

Also could someone tell me how long the backin up process should take, because its been busy for a while now and it nowhere sais how long it will take??

Regards,

Martin

PS: what does the database restore mean? can this help my problem perhaps?

Edit:
Now I encountered on an other problem...
I tried to back my database up.. saved on D:/ (I also have postgres and HEM installed on D:/).. But somehow it had to quit after a few minutes because my C:/ is full
C:/ wasnt full before, so I suspect there is a file for backing database up that is in C but I cant locate it, therefore I cant delete it, and now my C:/ is all full and I cant back a database up

The backup / restore process of a database is explained here: FAQ - Hold'em Manager Poker Tracking Software :: Backup & Restore Database (http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/72/Backup+%26+Restore+Database)

But this will not fix any problems you have with your data.
The restore can last some hours depending on the size of your database.
To fix any database problems you will need to create a new database and export / import all hands into this new database which will take much longer. It is explained in this FAQ: FAQ - Hold'em Manager Poker Tracking Software :: How to Import & Export Hands (http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/98/How+to+Import+%26+Export+Hands)
This will cover your mined hands too.

For your C: partition: nearly every program creates temporary data on this system partition. As so does Postgresql. You need to delete data (especially temporary data) on this partition otherwise your windows will no longer run decent. I suggest you look in windows related forums to find out how to gain space on C:

But how is it possible that my C:/ grew so significantly though my HEM and postgres are both installed on D:/, and the back-up didnt even complete..

this means I never can perform a back-up..

because temporary data are written to c:
You are right, without enough space on C: you can't create a backup.
Are you using the HM integrated backup or the backup via pgadminII->maintenance?

part of the problem solved... I found the file of the back-up in my AppData map, it was over 13GB and I deleted it....

How many free space should I have on my C drive to back-up a database?

And I got about 200GB free space on my D drive, cant I do something that all the temporary big files go on that drive

It depends on the size of your database how much space you need, hard to know but 200gb is more than enough.

The backup restore feature was only released lately so theres still some work to be done and currently you cant choose which hard drive you backup to but you could do a manual backup and restore by following the instructions below

Export and Import your Hand Histories and/or backup and restore your database

martin,

I have a similar problem. I tried to perform a backup of my database through HEM, not the postgreSQL program and it chewed through about 15gb of space(all the free space I had at the time) and I can't locate the file. I saved it to the default location which is:

C:\Program Files\RVG Software\Holdem...

And the file name cuts off there. I looked through the entire folder with no luck, and the name of the file is again the default name, "HEM BACKUP (date and time)". I searched my entire hard drive for the file and it didn't show up, so I have no idea where to locate this thing. You said you found it in some AppData menu, where do I find that folder? Does anyone else have any insight into this problem?

Its most likely a temp dump file so please try restarting and it should delete it

I've rebooted multiple times since this has occurred with no luck. I run Windows through Boot Camp on a Macbook, if that makes any difference.

You should find the temporary files in the windows or users folders.

For example c:\users\"your name"\temp under windows 7

Here is a link for how to clean temporary files: How to remove temporary program files (http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000225.htm)

I am having the same problem except my DB is over 200gb and my C: is an SSD with only 160gb.

Is there anyway to change the temp folder postgres uses even if only temporarily?

Nm, found it
