yes, this steps i have followed.
i tryed several times but always with the same result.

have you tried HM File - backup feature?

1.2g is a pretty large database.

I would let the restore run overnight, just because it says not responding doesnt mean it isnt doing the restore.

I would let it run until it completes or you get an error. This is exactly what i tell clients to do who have the same issue with the SQL databases i support.

you could also try creating a ramdrive and loading the file into the ram drive, but that is a more advanced step to take and you would need 1.3gigs of free ram.

thanks for your answer, i will try the overnight restore..Can you give any more info about the ''creating a ramdrive'', I have 1.3GB of free ram.

If you are going to try to restore overnight make sure you turn off your screensaver and any other "power saving" features on your OS as they could interrupt the restore if they are triggered.

There is a software company called super speed - >Microsoft Certified RamDisk Solutions (http://www.superspeed.com/)

they sell a program called "RamDisk" that allows you to take free memory and use it as a hard disk drive. This means large performance increases. Its usually something only large corporations are interested in. As you can tell from their website..it could help Postgre restore the database faster but i havent tested it, i dont have a large database.

The desktop version is available here - >RamDisk - Microsoft Certified Software (http://www.superspeed.com/desktop/ramdisk.php)

-There are other Ramdisk programs out there but this is the only one that is microsoft certified that i could find (Ive tried a lot of them and this is the best one, its not horribly expensive either)

I've been using it on win7 64bit with no problems.

The root cause of your issue could also just be a bad backup, in which case none of this will help you.

Do you have other backups you can try?

There are other ways of restoring the backup or check for corruption, you could check out http://forums.enterprisedb.com/forums and look for alternative methods.

if the overnight restore doesn't work my feeling is you may have a bad backup, which is something I doubt HEM support can help you with that. I would be willing to take a crack at it but no guarantees.
