View Full Version : Moving Postgres database

RLOG

Hi,

Earlier today I was helping a friend clear some HD space as his HD was full. Since Postgres was 34gbs we decided to move it over to the other harddrive. Now HEM won't work, as it can't find the database. This is understandable and what I thought would happen, but how do I tell it where the correct database is?

Thanks,

Ross.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

Would it be possible for one of the HEM guys to set up a teamviewer session with my friend? I'm not really sure what to do now and don't want to make anything worse!

Sent you a PM

Thanks Morny.

We are currently trying what you said. I've just realised that the data file when we copied it back didn't all get copied (missing out about 6gbs) so could that possibly be why it never worked? Anyway we're about to reinstall and see if this works.

Thanks again.

We're having instillation problems. Does it have to be the same version of Postgres?

morny

No not if you do it the way i explained, make sure the whole data folder is copied over as even 1 file missing will cause problems nevermind 6gb

Although if your using a different version make sure you paste the data folder to the new postgreSQL folder for example if you PostgreSQL 8.2 installed originally the data folder would be in X:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\PostgreSQL8.2\Data on the old drive but since your installing PostgreSQL you must paste the Data folder to X:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\PostgreSQL8.3\Data and not the PostgreSQL8.2 folder

If you still have problems ill do a teamviewer session with you tommorrow email me morny@holdemmanager.net to arrange a suitable time

Ok just waiting on the files being transferred over. Also when installing does it matter what we make the account domain / password?

Hi, I am having something similar happen but maybe a bit more complicated.

I recently bought a new hard drive to use as my main hard drive, with a new installation of XP and stuff. I still kept my old hard drive in the computer as a secondary drive.

I was using version 8.2.4 (i think) of postgre, and now that version isn't available to download in the site. I tried copying over the data folder on to an installation of 8.2.5, but it doesn't seem to work.

Anything I can do to get my database back?

RLOG

Ok got Postgres installed again, but now the error says "The following error occured when trying to open the database. Failed to establish a connection to 127.0.0.1"

Then when you get to the database connect page it says:

"Connection to postgres cannot be made, would you like Holdem Manager to start the service"?

So basically I think it may be a user / pass problem now? All the data is there now.

Any ideas?

Try stopping/starting the PostgreSQL service: http://208.109.95.123/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=34

And if you get either the transport connection error or the started then stopped error then try this:
http://208.109.95.123/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=164

I think we've tried all of these steps indirectly. Are you available for a teamviewer session?

morny
10-13-2008, 01:06 PM
Im free now if you email me morny@holdemmanager.net however please run through that stopping and starting of PostgreSQL in the link i gave and if you do get either of those errors i mentioned then youll need to follow this FAQ http://208.109.95.123/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=164 exactly as described as its definetely a antivirus/firewall/defender problem and the only way to fix it is following the FAQ and theres nothing extra i can do in a teamviewer session
