Recently my HEM wont open at all for some reason and all I get is this error message:

An error occurred on startup: Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt.

I have no idea what this means and how to go about fixing it. I've searched this forum extensively for this problem and only saw a small reference to the error having something to do with comodo which I know nothing about. I wish I could give more information but I dont even know where to begin. It was working fine, now it isnt. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The only thing I can think of that changed in my PC is I attempted to download and install SNG shark. I think I have contracted a virus from it as things have been showing up on my antivirus. I use Avast! antivirus and windows firewall. I have windows XP. When this first happened I uninstalled and reinstalled HEM a couple of times and downloaded HEM updates with no luck in fixing the problem. While attemting to clean out the virus in safe mode today I was able to open HEM. But when I start up normal I get the same error message when trying to open HEM. Thanks for the help.

Try repairing your .net Framework.
Control Panel> Add/remove programs
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1
Select uninstall and you should get the option to repair.

Try a reinstall of your Microsoft .NET Framework:

1) Uninstall your current version with this tool: http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/dot...eanup_tool.zip (http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/dotnetfx_cleanup_tool.zip)
2) Download and install this one: http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...tfx35setup.exe (http://download.microsoft.com/download/0/6/1/061F001C-8752-4600-A198-53214C69B51F/dotnetfx35setup.exe)
3) Try to run HM again <!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

Thats odd, it just worked for me, just google .net 3.5 and you should find your way there.

I think you have bits of Windows missing & this is what I suggest...

Bad Solution that I do not like:
Download details: .NET Framework 3.5 Service pack 1 (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=ab99342f-5d1a-413d-8319-81da479ab0d7)
Ignore the 'Download' button at the top
Scroll down the page to 'Instructions'
At the bottom of that section you wil see 'Full Package' there is a link to the DL just below there
After that you MUST do what it says in the instructions about KB959209 to address a set of known application compatibility issues.

Better Solution:
Go to Microsoft updates & let it update your PC
It might say you need to install flash (or something) to see the page
When it has...
Go back to Microsoft updates & double make sure it's updated everything
By doing it this way everything you need will be DL'd in the right order
Usually some parts of the DL do not work because they rely on other components of Windows already being installed
You must go back & repeat this process until Mr. Bill Gates is happy
Patience pays off :)

After your MS updates are done...

Check your system again for problems before you bother with HM
Avast on its own is not good enough you need to spend time on this & get it right

I have Avira & Threatfire running [& auto-updating]
I have Malwarebytes & SuperAntiSpyware which I run weekly [After manually updating]

I have FireFox + WOT. If WOT doesn't give a link a pretty green circle I don't go there...

Thank you so much for your help. I have been trying to get into ms updates but for some reason neither browser will allow me access to the site. Im beginning to realize this problem is much more serious than I thought. I am able to use programs and visit websites I normally do and was only having trouble when I tried to download the .net 3.5 installer. Now I am still able to open programs and search the web but cannot open the ms update web site. This is very strange. I am anxious to get started on the fixes you suggested and am very frustrated to find I cannot access the site that can help. Any ideas on anything I can do from here? If not no problem. I'll try to figure something out as Im sure my issues have gone beyond anything HEM support related. I really appreciate all the help and suggestions.

Do you have everything you need to start again from the beginning ?
In your situation I would reformat

Thank you so much for your help. I have been trying to get into ms updates but for some reason neither browser will allow me access to the site.....

You have a virus.

1. Reboot your computer in safe mode with networking access.
2. Do a search on your computer for a file called "hosts.*" and delete all of them.
3. Open a browser and do a google search for the two words 'trendmicro' and 'housecall'
4. Go to the site and do a system clean from the site while you're still in safe mode.
5. Good luck... you're gonna need it.

Which Operating System, Firewall, and Anti-Virus are you using?

Please update to the latest beta - http://www.holdemmanager.com/Downloads/HmUpdate.exe

For W7 and Vista you must set \holdem manager\dbcontrolpanel.exe, holdemmanager.exe and hmhud.exe are started as administrator. Run the windows explorer and navigate to your Holdemmanager installation directory. Right click the executables and select properties... then select "Run as admin" from the compatibility tab.

Add exceptions to the windows firewall for those files, even if the firewall is turned off. If you have a 3rd party firewall, do the equivalent or uninstall it temporarily

Make sure you have Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 (or later for w7) installed. (manually run a Windows Update and install ALL updates)
