Hi,

If this should be posted in the HUD section I apologize.

I recently installed VirtualMachine and am running XP inside Windows 7 32 bit. I am experiencing extreme lag when the HUD is on. Are there certian processes I need to allow or something? I am using Microsoft Security Essentials.

I had already done the "top ten HEM performance tips" and my database is less than 1K hands at this point.

Thanks

Turn off any HUD transparency, multiple panels, and maximize the opacity.

If you use the pre-fetch or live-tracking options, disable them in the HUD Options > Site Options > Full Tilt or Stars

What other software is running? TableNinja or Hotkeys? Can you try to get a screen shot of the Task Manager > Processes tab, sorted in descending order of CPU and Memory use?

I already had it set up like this so nothing changed here.

If you use the pre-fetch or live-tracking options, disable them in the HUD Options > Site Options > Full Tilt or Stars

I am not using pre-fetch or live tracking.

I am not running any other software.

You have postgresql installed in the virtual machine too? It would be better for the performance to install it on the server and connect via network. But i don't think this causes the problems.

What happens if you disable MSE?

Which site are you playing?
Which gametype?
How many tables?

It is still slow with MSE disabled.

I noticed today the import is also very slow as well as the general responsiveness of the program. Switching between screens and so on.

I play 4 tables of 6 max no limit across FTP Stars and UB. The speed is no different on any site.

To be honest: for me it sounds like your computer is to slow to run everything in the virtual machine.

That's pretty weird cause its basically a brand new computer (6 months old) that has was too much power for anything I am actually doing on it.

That machine should be fine.
Did you install virtual tools?
How many graphic ram are you using for the machine?
Did you configure enough RAM for the machine....
There are so many factors when configuring a virtual machine - its hard to analyze.

I think you found the problem. I did not configure any of that. I simply installed the VM and assumed that was it. If you have a link to something that runs you through it that would be great. Thanks for the help either way, sorry to waste your time.

Can you please link me to the virtual tools you mentioned?

To use VM ware tools it appears I have to purchase the VMware workstation for $189. I am using Windows Virtual PC which is free. Windows Virtual PC: Home Page (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/)

I understand this is outside your arena and will try to find the answer on my own.

Thanks for the help.

I suggest you use
Virtual Box (VirtualBox (http://www.virtualbox.org))
or
vmware server (VMware Virtualization Software for Desktops, Servers & Virtual Machines for a Private Cloud (http://www.vmware.com))
which both are free and work good for me.
I have no experience with Virtual PC but with the other tools i can help you at least a little bit. :)

I installed both programs and am having infinite trouble with both. It appears you need a windows xp installation disc and I don't have one. It's pretty obvious even if I had it I would be a fish out of water.

Thanks for the offer of help but I am afraid it would take an army. I am just going to stick with playing without a HUD and importing hands after my session.
