Reinstall Microsoft .NET Framework:

1) Download and run this uninstaller - http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/dotnetfx_cleanup_tool.zip
2) Install this one: http://download.microsoft.com/download/2/0/e/20e90413-712f-438c-988e-fdaa79a8ac3d/dotnetfx35.exe

Please update to the latest version - http://www.holdemmanager.net/hmupdate

This is usually a firewall or windows update issue.

FAQ - Hold'em Manager Poker Tracking Software :: Can't Connect / Failed to Start PostgreSQL (http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/91/Can't+Connect+%7B47%7D+Failed+to+Start+PostgreSQL+ )

First try to reboot.

If no help, try this:

Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Stop Service

Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Start Service

If that doesnt help delete the \postgresql\8.x\data\postmaster.pid file, if you see it.

Add exceptions to the windows firewall, even if it is off. If you have a 3rd party firewall, do the equivalent or uninstall it temporarily - FAQ - Hold'em Manager Poker Tracking Software :: Windows Firewall / Defender Problems (http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/275/Windows+Firewall+%7B47%7D+Defender+Problems)

Please try following these FAQs, step by step:

1) FAQ - Hold'em Manager Poker Tracking Software :: Can't Connect / Failed to Start PostgreSQL (http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/91/Can't+Connect+%7B47%7D+Failed+to+Start+PostgreSQL+ )
2) reinstall the same version of postgresql, using the same \data folder - FAQ - Hold'em Manager Poker Tracking Software :: Reinstall PostgreSQL Preserving Old Database (http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/71/Reinstall+PostgreSQL+Preserving+Old+Database)
3) Still Can't Connect to PosgreSQL? Try This! - Holdem Manager Forums (http://www.holdemmanager.net/forum/showthread.php?t=8261)

If that doesn't help you will probably have to reinstall PostgreSQL completely and reimport your hands using these instructions

1) Uninstall PostgreSQL from the Windows Control Panel.
2) Use our combo installer to reinstall PostgreSQL. Make sure you un-check Holdem Manager during installation. http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/Holdem_Manager_Setup.exe

If that installer fails to install PostgreSQL, please reinstall PostgreSQL using the following instructions:
A) Start > Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt > Right-Click > Run As Administrator

net user postgres /delete
B) Reboot.
C) Try installing this version of PostgreSQL - http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/Postgres_8.3.9-v1.0.7.exe

ok, i went through all the steps suggested except for the last one. after the 2nd to last suggestion, the postgres allows me to connect. so i didn't bother the last solution. i can mess with the options and HEM stays open now. however, it still tells me that:

"the following error occurred when trying to open the database: This operation is only supported on windows 2000 SP3 or later operating systems".

&

"and error occurred when retrieving the player list: This operation is only supported on windows 2000 SP3 or later operating systems".

can't seem to add/locate hero name in HH database. played 40 hands. HHs
from PS are being saved to C:/HMArchive, i see the HH, but no HUDs are visible.

so to conclude, the HUD still isn't visible probably cuz it can't detect the hero, but the HHs and target folder are correct. only thing thas changed is i can fiddle with the HEM without it crashing on me now.

Where do you get this postgresql error messages?

Can you connect to your database via pgadminIII?

Which postgresql version have you installed (the one from our combo installer)?

up until today, i got those msgs after i failed to connect to posgres. that no longer an issue but today, i got a player cache upgrade screen, after i finished that, an optimization page and after both options didnt pick up the hero ID, i bypassed it and the msgs came up again right after. i'm still able to click start auto import after that.

not sure how to do that, i seee a folder by that name in the postgres folder but no exe. file. cannot select database if thats what u mean. i also see that i have a 8.3 and 8.4 folder.

yes, the one u suggested near the bottom of the page. thanks.

......
not sure how to do that, i seee a folder by that name in the postgres folder but no exe. file. cannot select database if thats what u mean.

Start > Programs > PostgreSQL 8.4 > PGAdmin

Right-Click on the SQL Server and choose connect.

Password = postgrespass

Click the '+' sign to expand the Databases menu and pick your DB.

i also see that i have a 8.3 and 8.4 folder.

yes, the one u suggested near the bottom of the page. thanks.

Our combo installer installs version 8.4. The 8.3 folder is your old database(s). When you uninstall postgresql from the windows control panel it doesn't delete the \data folder, in case you want to move or reinstall your database again.

the HUD dosen't work. the Microsoft frame 3.5 crashes often on both comps. causing ninja to crash on one and hem from working on other. one is usig xp and other is vista.
