You should backup all your original hands and export any hands, notes, HUDs, etc. This is in case the backup/restore of the database fails you will be able to import everything again and rebuild the DB.

Find and backup your \HMArchive folder. Your \HMArchive is likely not in your \Holdem Manager directory. We normally suggest you use C:\HMArchive, but you may have put it anywhere. To verify the location: Options > Configure Auto Import Folders > Edit > Archive Folder: ___________________

Export Your Notes - http://faq.holdemmanager.com/images/notes-02.jpg

Export Your Bonuses and Rakeback - Options > Rakeback & Bonuses - http://faq.holdemmanager.com/images/rakeback-bonuses-01.jpg

Export any tourney summaries by selecting all your tournaments in the Data View Sub-Tab of the Tourney > Results Menu and choose Export Tourney Results and summaries

http://faq.holdemmanager.com/images/tourney-data-view-01.jpg

Make sure you export any custom HUD layouts to your \Config folder and copy it for a backup. FAQ - Hold'em Manager Poker Tracking Software :: Import / Export HUD Layout (http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/46/Import+%7B47%7D+Export+HUD+Layout)

and finally:

Export your hands - FAQ - Hold'em Manager Poker Tracking Software :: How to Import & Export Hands (http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/98/How+to+Import+%26+Export+Hands)

Now you can perform a .backup, install the same version of postgresql, create a new DB, and restore the original DB. If you have any issues with the restored DB you will want to start a new DB and import all the old files.

Thank you for helping me.
I 'm exporting hands from my database right now. I am not sure if i have enough space into my cpu to export them. Acctually the mainly reason i'll format my pc is the fullness of my disk. I don't know how to get more space.
Ty sorry my english

Hi,

If you've another free drive try exporting there instead, if not try deleting some unused programs or downloads before exporting

Logging:

I would suggest you turn off logging on your new SQL installation as well as these other performance improvements in my signature - Top 10: HEM performance increase tips

To turn off logging, follow these instructions. This is the first thing I do anytime I install SQL for someone.

- Start > My Computer > Tools > Folder Options > View > UnCheck 'Hide Extensions for known file types' > OK

- C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\data\postgresql.conf > Right-Click > Open With.. > NotePad > Check 'Always use this program'

- Scroll about half way down to ~Lines 245 - 260:

- The last line of this block of code, for the 'logging_collector', must be changed from On to Off.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
# ERROR REPORTING AND LOGGING
#------------------------------------------------------------------------------

# - Where to Log -

log_destination = 'stderr' # Valid values are combinations of
# stderr, csvlog, syslog and eventlog,
# depending on platform. csvlog
# requires logging_collector to be on.

# This is used when logging to stderr:
logging_collector = off # Enable capturing of stderr and csvlog

File > Save; File > Close

Start > Programs > PostgreSQL 8.3 > Reload Configuration.

- Start > My Computer > C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\data\pg_log, or C:\Program Files (x86)\PostgreSQL\data\pg_log, if you have 64 bit Vista. Delete all files in that folder. And it might be a good idea to empty your recycle bin at that point, or use a 3rd party utility like CCleaner to clean up all your junk/temporary files. You want to do this before you get to the vacuum and defrag process.

Regarding database maintenance:

You should regularly purge mined hands in your database, after purge vacuum / full analyze the database via pgadmin. You do not want to purge any Hero hands so make sure your alias is properly configured before purging.
FAQ - Hold'em Manager Poker Tracking Software :: Purge Hands from Database (http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/100/Purge+Hands+from+Database)
FAQ - Hold'em Manager Poker Tracking Software :: Purge Hands (http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/197/Purge+Hands)

Then you can vacuum/analyze - FAQ - Hold'em Manager Poker Tracking Software :: Vacuum Analyze Database (http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/88/Vacuum+Analyze+Database+#manual)

Before you defragment you should stop the PostgreSQL service:

Start > Programs > PostgreSQL 8.x > Stop Server

Use your favorite defrag tool. I recommend Smart Defrag.

After defrag I recommend you reboot your PC. If you need to access the DB before rebooting you can start the PostgreSQL service.

Start > Programs > PostgreSQL 8.x > Start Server

You should buy an external HDD and copy data, files and folders to this hdd.

A DVD also is a possible solution to move files/data to.

First of all thank you very much for the support.

So Morny I did what you suggest me. I'm using imBurn to save my hands on the dvd-r disk. But At some point of the process the progam shows the following message: "failed to read sector 366140". I ask it to retry and it keep sending me the same message. Then i click on the continue option and the failure keeps going on on the following sectors. For example: "failed to read sector 366141"; "failed to read sector 366142" and so on.

What should i Do?
I'm asking your help cause i was succed saving other stuff and only got this issue when i tried to copy my hands to dvd-r. So maybe it's something you guys could know how to help me

Thanks again.

I was navegating into my c:\... trying to find some files and programs to remove. Then ocaionally i noted that my postgresql folder has 80gb. I think my entire cpu has 120.
So if i format the computer will this fodler get shorter?. How much shorter it will get? Is it worth to format my computer at all?
The two mainly reasons that make me fell like formating it its that i have 4 gb left in my hard disk and i think it is good thing to do to avoid some risk of my computer being infected by something bad. But if could solve this last reason i mentioned...
Is there a way to get these files shorter?

Thank you for your time

Hi,

That sounds like theres a problem with the discs.

Formatting will improve the space but as you put the programs back it will increase again, see post 1 here on how to control the size of the postgreSQL database

http://forums.holdemmanager.com/manager-general/8423-want-stop-postgre-creating-those-large-log-files-heres-how.html

And also see this How to optimize PostgreSQL database size | LinuxInsight (http://www.linuxinsight.com/optimize_postgresql_database_size.html)

I did every thing in teh post 1. My folder had 5 gb of logs.

Post 2 was really tough to understand. I have no idea about what was there.
I read a comment that those process have some high risk so i don't think it can be usefull for me cause i'm really noobie at all.

Is there any thing else i might do?

The best thing is to buy a new computer with a bigger harddisk.

Is your system running at the moment or do you still have problems?

Jhonnybegood

No problems at all. I have now 25 gb left in my hard disk. Im using 100gb and my data base seems to be 85% of all.
I don't think buying a new computer is on my plans. I wonder if i could gain space by Vacuuming or reindexing like that guy did in the link you post it. But I don't know how to do it.

Its explained in this FAQ: FAQ - Hold'em Manager Poker Tracking Software :: Vacuum Analyze Database (http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/88/Vacuum+Analyze+Database+)

1. Vacuum/full
2. Reindex
3. Optional: Defrag your HDD with not running postgresql service
