Hi,

i backed up my database out of PSQL 8.2 as a plain .sql file, because i switched over to win7.
The problem is, that i can't load .sql files into PSQL 8.4.

any ideas?

Im not a postgres expert but usually youd use .backup and use the backup and restore method

Ideally id always recommend to export your hh or keep your archive hands as backup and restore isnt always successful

I've done this like 3 or 4 times already, but always from 8.2->8.2 or 8.3->8.4.
I used the backup and restore feature, but it gave 8.2 gave me a .sql file :(
seems like 8.3 started using the .backup format.

Yeah i would imagine 8.4 is compatible but i know 8.2 is no longer supported so maybe you cant go from 8.2 to 8.4, a workaround in case thats the scenario is to install 8.3 on another PC and try and backup there.

Not really sure what else to do when an install fails like this. Possible the PostgreSQL forums will help
