Please update to the latest beta - http://www.holdemmanager.net/hmbetaupdate

For W7 and Vista you must set \holdem manager\dbcontrolpanel.exe, holdemmanager.exe and hmhud.exe are started as administrator. Run the windows explorer (start > computer) and navigate to your Holdemmanager installation directory. Right-click + Properties the executables and select "Run as admin" from the compatibility tab. If you have Vista and the checkboxes are greyed out and you can't select it, please turn UAC on, reboot, and then set the files to run as administrator.

Make sure the hand histories and poker client are in English. Set your Windows Regional and Language Settings to English (US). Restart your PC.

If they still won't import, try to create a new DB and test import them again. If the problem persists in the new db Please zip and email the problem hand histories, with a link to this thread, to support@holdemmanager.com

all my poker clients run in english. is it really nessasary to run my vista in english? com'on - you cant create an program running well only on usa-pc. the old hm ran perfect on my laptop.

Its not necessary to run your Vista in english.

The error message you posted should be solved with giving holdemmanager.exe, hmhud.exe and dbcontrolpanel.exe administrator rights as explained in the link Fozzy posted.

......

I have had this fix various importing issues in the past.

http://forums.holdemmanager.com/manager-bugs/28764-error-42703-how-can-i-handle.html#post138900

At the very least the currency formatting should be in standard $1,234.00 instead of $1.234,00.

Just working with customer I helped the other day. I changed his regional settings to english US and setup his import and things were working OK afaik. He emailed me today with importing and connection issues and he apparently changed back to Netherlands formatting and everything is FUBAR. :S

Since this thread is resolved I guess it's OK to hijack a little...

I see some problems in this forum are eventually fixed by a change in the user permissions or folder locations or windows language settings/currency format/date format (or more often I think by changing of the language of the poker client HH's in the poker client)

Here is a SPECULATIVE QUESTION/SUGGESTION based on very little knowledge - so educate me... :) : Could HM + Apps be written with more built-in smartness/interactivity to save a lot of trouble for the users & the support staff ?

##############
As an example - Do you think it would be a good idea if when a hand is imported into HM it will warn you if the HH format is 'wrong' for HM ? By 'warn you' I mean that HM gives you specific reasons if/when possible ?

If the currency decimal is a ',' & not a '.' in the HH can't HM detect that it's a currency number (because say there's 'USD' or '$' associated with the number) & tell the user to change to a '.' format for the decimal sign ?

############################
Fozzy post # 10 & 11 in this thread seems to say that HM uses some parts of a] windows formatting & some parts of the b] HH formatting ? Does HM support/development know what windows regional/language/number/currency/time/date/ options/formats matter & what doesn't matter ?

For example...

** My language settings are English (United Kingdom) & all is well in HM, but the advice on this forum sometimes recommends Eng (US) is this advice correct/necessary ?

** If I set the date/time on my PC to January 1st 1911 at midnight does HM care ? Doesn't it read the time off the HH's & not my PC time ?

** If in windows a ',' is used instead of '.' for the decimal does that effect the HH's if they're set to English in the poker client ? I would not have thought that windows rewrites the HH's but keeps them as they are written (I don't have a clue how windows & HM interact )

** If someone can't read or write English & they are from Thailand can they set language in windows to Thai ? (On this one I would say 'yes' as long as they have chosen for their HH's to be written in English by their poker client)

########
I noticed that a recent post asked why HM is warning to close table manager when it is not open ? I know now that this is an advisory & not a command - it's the wording in the popup, but when it first happened to me I figured HM knows best & it has detected a running process & I spent time trying to close a closed process :)

##############
My HM is smart enough to detect that I play on PS & therefore market TableNinja to me within my paid-for HM, but can't tell me in plain English to "turn on the postgreSQL service you dolt"

##############
All in all - when HM is run could it not tell the user what settings need changing ? - I'm thinking of UAC for example. Perhaps when there is a user problem he could connect to a HM diagnostic tool that runs some automatic tests (or the tool could be built into HM) to rule out (or inform) about the obvious stuff. such as HM version, monitor settings, ports, uac, memory, language, folder paths etc etc etc

This would have to be asked of the developers, but I don't think there is a lot of wriggle room on how the hands have to be formatted.

I have never asked Roy for specifics but after 100's of support sessions, I always suggest people change their regional settings initially to get everything working. If they later change the regional settings (like one of my customers did earlier today) and the importing fails or other errors appear, it will be evident the cause was that they changed their regional settings before the errors appeared.

** My language settings are English (United Kingdom) & all is well in HM, but the advice on this forum sometimes recommends Eng (US) is this advice correct/necessary ?

UK, USA, and Canada regional settings should all be adequate afaik.

** If I set the date/time on my PC to January 1st 1911 at midnight does HM care ? Doesn't it read the time off the HH's & not my PC time ?

I am not sure. I would need to ask or actually attempt it.

** If in windows a ',' is used instead of '.' for the decimal does that effect the HH's if they're set to English in the poker client ? I would not have thought that windows rewrites the HH's but keeps them as they are written (I don't have a clue how windows & HM interact )

The hand history will still be written however the client writes it, I think. The problems are within PostgreSQL I believe, if those regional settings/format are not set properly.

** If someone can't read or write English & they are from Thailand can they set language in windows to Thai ? (On this one I would say 'yes' as long as they have chosen for their HH's to be written in English by their poker client)

They can set regional settings to english and still use their native windows language. The poker client MUST be in English in most cases.

Agreed, it shouldn't be warning you if the table manager is not open.

##############
My HM is smart enough to detect that I play on PS & therefore market TableNinja to me within my paid-for HM, but can't tell me in plain English to "turn on the postgreSQL service you dolt"

I am not sure if it can (or is possible to) tell the difference between a postgresql installation that was manually turned off and one that is broken.

##############
All in all - when HM is run could it not tell the user what settings need changing ? - I'm thinking of UAC for example.

Our new installer sets all 3 HEM app's to Run as Admin and also adds a registry entry to hide the postgres windows user the installer creates. We are constantly trying to do things to make the end user experience easier. The new apps you will be testing soon will be proof of that fact. ;)
