I have reviewed most of the post on the forum about connecting to a db on another workstation but I still can't get it to work.

Here is my set up. I have a workstation with the db. The workstation is Windows 7. I want to connect to the db from my laptop which is a Vista machine.

I assume it is a firewall or PostgreSQL configuration issue. It looks like you have to configure PostgreSQL to allow a remote connect but I am not having any luck. (By remote, I do mean the same network not across the internet)

Did you try following this FAQ? FAQ - Hold'em Manager Poker Tracking Software :: How do I setup Holdem Manager to share one database between two computers? (http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/336/How+do+I+setup+Holdem+Manager+to+share+one+databas e+between+two+computers%3F)

No, I have not tried that solution but that seems like strange solution when you should be able to connect to the postgreSql db from another computer. I might give this a shot but I am looking for a solution where just have to install in HM on the laptop and connect to the db on the desktop.

Ah ok sorry for the misunderstanding, this FAQ should be much simpler so FAQ - Hold'em Manager Poker Tracking Software :: Move Database to Another Hard Drive or Partition (http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/368/Move+Database+to+Another+Hard+Drive+or+Partition)

So basically you just need to edit the registry entry to send it to the network for the database path instead of the local machine, ive not tried it but it should work in theory
