Hi,
What is performance consuming with mass import ?
Computer that imports hand ?
Or PostGreSQL installation ?

Lets imagine i have a nice and slow computer with XP anh latest HM version.
And an PostGreSQL DB on an Linux 2Go/100Go HD 7200/Cor Duo centrino 1.8

Will i gain performance with mass import (between 200k day and 1000k hands some times) ?

Will there be a possibility to directely import from linux ?
I am not talking to have a linux version of HM, just the Import part.

Thx
Best regards

Hi
Install PG 8.4 on a Fedora Linux done ;-) Good !
Works

I do have more performance.
Will apply Tips.

Now, question :
Can i backup my Windows 8.3 DB and restor it on an 8.4 Linux ?
Guess yes ...

Will try to find FAQ ...
But if some one has tips for this ;-)

Last question :
Could u develop a little application to import directely from linux ?
Lets say just a command line script. Possible ?
That exist ?

Thx
Best regards

Sorry I don't know anything about LINUX.

I can tell you that a restored SQL 8.3 database is NOT compatible with SQL 8.4 and therefore cannot be restored as a 8.4 database.

You can restore a 8.3.1 database to a 8.3.10 database, any 8.3.x is compatible with each other.

Since not many people use Linux, I doubt we'll ever do ANY Linux support. (Mac support has a much higher priority)
Running HEM via VirtualBox on Linux seems to work.
But you only want to run the import via Linux?

Yes,

Would just be nice ;-)

OK,
Peformance tips make 8.4 crash on start on an 8.4.X.X linux SQL.
Just changed shared buffer and and activated effective cashe sise (that was uncommented)

I do have a bit more performance on the new DB ...
But ... nor really fantastic.

Is it not HMImport that makes all the work any how ?
This takes lots of CPU on my computer (40/50 or more)

So OK, i read in FAQ that linuw PostGreSQL is faster.
But we need also fast computer to import from ?
U confirm ?

does any one have good perf tips on 8.4 ?

Thx

OK, was using Wifi to connex the 2 computers.
Tested with a cross ethernet cable, i doubled up the speed.
This must be confirmed on mass import, but interisting information ...

OK, this is confirmed
On my XP windows with PostGress 5 to 8h/s

Now, from slow XP to fast Linux = 25h/s

This is nice.

With no performance tips included !!
