Hi, I have just started using my new laptop with win7. I just installed HM and it will start so do i still need to do the thing to run as administrater or is mine ok? (i saw another thread but mine loads up ok but i havnt actually imported anything yet)

Also im terrible with computers and it took me like 2days to get HM workin the 1st time, and i need to get all my old hands onto the new laptop, Ive looked over how to export and looks very confusing, i have played ova 10k sngs but i dont really need all these hands. All i want on the new DB is all my old hands 4 mtts and cash, How do i do this and also my old laptop runs on XP. Can i get starts to send me the hands i want then upload then onto the new DB or whats my options?

Thanks for any help/advice.
Mike

There should be an archive folder on your PC (default c:\hmarchive).

Copy this folder to your laptop (via network or USB stick or...) and import all the hands in there via import file or import from folder. I think thats the easiest solution because filtering hands you wan't to export/import might be more work.

Is it possible to just copy the database from one machine to another after hm is installed on the second machine?

I was doing this in pt2, but it was not postgres. I eventually put my db's (hand history and pt) on an external hard drive and this worked just fine, but from the article on how to do this with hm, it is much more involved.

To copy the database you need to do a backup / restore:
FAQ - Hold'em Manager Poker Tracking Software :: Backup & Restore Database (http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/72/Backup+%26+Restore+Database)

because the database is not just a single file.

If you install the same postgresql version on the new computer you can try to copy and reinstall the complete postgresql data folder:

You can move your \data folder to the new PC and install the same version of postgresql over your old \data folder. You just need to be sure you do not Initialize Database Cluster again or it will over-write the database.

1) If you are moving the DB to a different drive/partition, manually cut or copy the \Postgresql\8.x\data directory to it's new location.
2) Install the same version of PostgreSQL as your current DB using these instructions - FAQ - Hold'em Manager Poker Tracking Software :: Reinstall PostgreSQL Preserving Old Database (http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/71/Reinstall+PostgreSQL+Preserving+Old+Database)
3) If you have moved/installed your DB to a non-default location, please make sure to change the 'Data Directory' path during the installation.
