I'm thinking about reformatting my comp and installing w7. What is the best way to copy and reinstall my huge database? The last time I reformatted, i had to extract and import the hands and this took the best part of 6 days continuous importing - surely there is a better more faster way?

There are 2 other ways you can try. If they fail you will have to start a new DB and import all your old hands, so you want to make sure you export/backup everything first.

Find and backup your \HMArchive folder. Your \HMArchive is likely not in your \Holdem Manager directory. We normally suggest you use C:\HMArchive, but you may have put it anywhere. To verify the location: Options > Configure Auto Import Folders > Edit > Archive Folder: ___________________

Export Your Bonuses and Rakeback - Options > Rakeback & Bonuses - http://faq.holdemmanager.com/images/rakeback-bonuses-01.jpg

Export any tourney summaries by selecting all your tournaments in the Data View Sub-Tab of the Tourney > Results Menu and choose Export Tourney Results and summaries

and finally:

Make sure you create a .backup file using the PGAdmin maintenance menu also.

The fastest way, if you have an external hard driver to back up your entire \data folder is to use the reinstall method.

1) Install the same version of PostgreSQL as your current DB using these instructions - FAQ - Hold'em Manager Poker Tracking Software :: Reinstall PostgreSQL Preserving Old Database (http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/71/Reinstall+PostgreSQL+Preserving+Old+Database)
2) If you have moved/installed your DB to a non-default location, please make sure to change the 'Data Directory' path during the installation.

If that fails for some reason you can try to restore a .backup file (that you made before reformatting).

FAQ - Hold'em Manager Poker Tracking Software :: Backup & Restore Database (http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/72/Backup+%26+Restore+Database)

If both of those ways failed you should reinstall the latest version of postgresql and import all your original and exported files.

Thanks fozzy.

Will you be adding import export usernames/aliases?
