I'm sure I'm missing something here, but I literally tried every single suggestion I've found in the forums (hosts notepad file, services/PostgreSQL/Start/Automatic...). Nothing works.

My computer is brand new, Windows 7 64, HEM worked just fine when I installed it, then got this bug (pretty sure it happened after a Windows Update).

Same problem has been going on for days now and it's a volume killer, starting to get quite urgent.

If someone from support would be kind enough to do a Mikogo session with me, that would be great.

Thx

Hi,

This is usually a firewall or windows update issue.

First try to reboot.

If no help, try this:

Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Stop Service

Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Start Service

If that doesnt help delete the \postgresql\8.x\data\postmaster.pid file, if you see it.

Add exceptions to the windows firewall, even if it is off. If you have a 3rd party firewall, do the equivalent or uninstall it temporarily - FAQ - Hold'em Manager Poker Tracking Software :: Windows Firewall / Defender Problems (http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/275/Windows+Firewall+%7B47%7D+Defender+Problems) - Windows Firewall / Defender Problems

Please try following these FAQs, step by step:

1) FAQ - Hold'em Manager Poker Tracking Software :: Can't Connect / Failed to Start PostgreSQL (http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/91/Can't+Connect+%7B47%7D+Failed+to+Start+PostgreSQL+ ) Can't Connect / Failed to Start PostgreSQL
2) reinstall the same version of postgresql, using the same \data folder - FAQ - Hold'em Manager Poker Tracking Software :: Reinstall PostgreSQL Preserving Old Database (http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/71/Reinstall+PostgreSQL+Preserving+Old+DatabaseReinst all) PostgreSQL Preserving Old Database
3) Still Can't Connect to PosgreSQL? Try This! - Holdem Manager Forums (http://www.holdemmanager.net/forum/showthread.php?t=8261)

If that doesn't help you will probably have to reinstall PostgreSQL completely and reimport your hands using these instructions

1) Uninstall PostgreSQL from the Windows Control Panel.
2) Use our combo installer to reinstall PostgreSQL. Make sure you un-check Holdem Manager during installation. http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/Holdem_Manager_Setup.exe

If that installer fails to install PostgreSQL, please reinstall PostgreSQL using the following instructions:
A) Start > Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt > Right-Click > Run As Administrator

net user postgres /delete
B) Reboot.
C) Try installing this version of PostgreSQL - http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/Postgres_8.3.9-v1.0.7.exe

I uninstalled the 83.8.4 , postseql thingy (tired ).
I used cc cleaner to get the files out of registry, and deleted the heck out of any extra files iwth post in the name.
i did the same with hold them manager.

my problem was I couldnt' get my database started, so i went through services and restarted the one that wouldnt' start with nt (i have net framework 3.5) after starting it as local computer.
finally after that i went to microsoft sql server 2005 in my program files and was able to finally connect to the database.
then i installed hem and updated it and now upgrading from archive.
(i didnt' need to upgrade postsql at all as hem regular download has postgres 8.4)

in the process i updated windows, (oh yes i think pc fixer blocked it in the first place), updated server this , updated that.

and i wasn't making any headway to i finally got the root of
"sql server (mssmlbiz)" and that is the one i had to restart as local as i didnt' know what the nt passwword was. (hell i am no programmer)
(IT WAS IN CONTROL PANEL, ADMINSTRIVE TOOLS, and the first of the sql).
oh yes dont' forget to read the faq about restarting secondary logon and set it to automatic.
perhaps i didn't even need to take away postrequel if i had known about that..
but at least it is a fresh reboot of it all.

edited to further add
I probaly fluked it off eheh

Wow, that was painful.

1. Reboot: didn't work (obviously)
2. Stop-Start service: didn't work
3. Delete .pid file: didn't work
4. Firewall and Defender: didn't work
5. FAQs steps: didn't work

6. Combo Installer: got the job done.

So thank you very much for your help Morny.

@ MASTERHOLMES: Honnestly man, I'm pretty slow with computers, so I'll just admit I have no clue what you're talking about. Thanks a lot for trying though. ;)
