I know this must have been asked a lot but there isn't one post with the clear cut step by step guide.

Buying a new computer, desktop. Want to keep my laptop as backup with HEM and my database. Want to be able to use both.

Step1: Download HEM from online to my new desktop. Copy and paste serial number from HEM on laptop

Step2: Back up my HHs.

Step3: Back up my database.

Step4: Transfer database.

Step5: Copy and past settings to keep HUD the same.

1.I should use the same version of Postgresl? Are the new versions better, am I missing out?
2.Why do I need backup hh's? In case I'm locked out of my database or something? What's the point of all the saved hands taking up space?

Thanks a lot.

Is this one the same for a new computer I'd imagine? http://208.109.95.123/faq/afmmain.aspx?faqid=171

You should use the latest 8.4 postgresql version (only if the postgresql version on your old computer is older than 8.3 you should use an older version on your new computer too because otherwise you will not be able to restore the database backup).

The export of the handhistories, notes and tournament summaries is a 2nd level backup because some Users experience problems when restoring the database backup. With the handhistories they can create a new empty database and reimport everything. The handhistory files are usually flat ASCII files which don't waste to much space.

I don't know whats your question about the FAQ link.
