Get error all of a sudden -- "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Associations control panel." -- when I click on the icon -- it is now blank -- not sure what happened or how to fix -- seems completely random. Please advise.

Please update to the latest version - http://www.holdemmanager.net/hmupdate

If none of that helps, I would suggest a clean reinstall:

FAQ - Hold'em Manager Poker Tracking Software :: Using Revo Uninstaller (http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/126/Using+Revo+Uninstaller+)

1) Make a backup of your C:\Program Files\RVG Software\Holdem Manager\Config folder, and any other important files.
2) Uninstall HM with Revo Uninstaller Pro - Uninstall Software, Remove Programs, Solve uninstall problems (http://www.revouninstaller.com) using the Deep setting. You do not need to uninstall PostgreSQL.
3) If given the option, on the 2 following screens of Revo, remove any registry entries and leftover files.
4) Reboot your computer
5) Install the complete setup of HM: http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/Holdem_Manager_Setup.exe. You should un-check the PostgreSQL Option when running the combo installer.
6) Test if it for a while and see if it works

First suggestion doesn't work (loading latest version) -- same question, pick application to run program

Do I need to download the uninstaller program?

I'm inclinedto just buy a new computer and start over.

but is this really necessary?

You should give us some more details about your computer system and screenshots of what you are trying to do and the error message.

But if you like to reinstall this will fix it anyway.

Thanks for the responses. I don't have my computer with me (it is a laptop - Inspiron Dell) as I am work. This was the error message that I got when I tried to open the Holdem Manager application by clicking the shortcut on my desktop -- also, the desktop icon shortcut has changed -- it doesn't have the HEM icon in it, it just appears to be a blank icon:

"This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Associations control panel."

What then appears is a list of applications (including adobe pdf, microsoft word, notebook, etc.).

I got a similar error message when I tried to download the downloader program that Fozzy suggested I use. So, I don't think this is really a HEM problem per se, as it seems my computer appears to be looking for programs to use to run the program itself -- as opposed to just running the program as an application program. Not sure why it is doing this and will try to get you more information when I have access to my laptop later tonight, but any thoughts as to why my computer may be doing this (and what I may be able to do to fix the problem) would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again for the support.

Regards,

KellyRae

If you google that error youll find lots of stuff on it, im leaning towards it being a virus as ive not seen this for exe files before, for example if you didnt have word installed and tried to open a .doc file youd see the same error

By disabling you from running exes it would make it extremely difficult for you to install anything to get rid of it which is the main reason im assuming its a virus of some sort

If it is specific to exe's then maybe this will help Broken EXE Association (http://filext.com/faq/broken_exe_association.php) and hopefully it aint a virus

Thanks for the respsonse. Have laptop now. Odd thing is that I can open files by right click and running as administrator. If I just click on the icon itself to run the program I get the request for which file I want to use to open the application -- does that change anything that you've suggested above?

Have you tried uninstalling it with revo like I first recommended?

If it won't uninstall for some reason, just run our combo installer again and install it fresh. Make sure you uncheck the [x] postgresql option during installation.

Thanks for the responses Fozzy. I was unable to run the uninstall program as my computer seems to have a problem running .exe programs generally without running as administrator. I also had another administrative account, which when I logged on using that account was able to run HEM the same as it always ran. Not sure what is wrong with the first administrative account, though -- if you have any thoughts, great, but it seems I have stumbled upon a workaround fix for the moment.

Thanks again for the responses.
