auto import recently failed to start. after stopping and starting the import process several times, it would eventually start to import hands. it would continue to import fine from then on until the program is restarted, then the problem would reappear.

i have also tried to import bulk hand histories which would not import either. i get an 600 errors for 600 hands, for example. after stopping and then restarting import, the importing would eventually begin, but at 1 hand/sec.

btw, it takes a very long time for importing to stop and start. ~1-5 mins.

edit: i can import hands into a newly created DB.

so far, i have updated HM, defragged HDD, and run a vacuum analysis.

the vacuum analysis is another issue. i ran the vacuum for over 10 hours and it had not reached completion. i watched the CPU and memory numbers of pgAdmin in task manager for a couple of hours. the CPU read 0 and the memory read 9188 every time i checked. i then canceled the vacuum. had the vacuum failed? and, will canceling a vacuum cause problems?

i am also having a table scanner problem that may or maynot be related. see thread - http://forums.holdemmanager.com/table-scanner/26753-player-list-fills-up-after-scan-complete.html

im running a quad core CPU with 4gig RAM on vista.

Hi, Its usually vista related issues that cause these import freezes,

please give HoldemManager Administrator rights:

1) Go to C:\Program Files\RVG Software\Holdem Manager (Program Files (x86) if you have the 64bit version)
2) Rightclick the HoldemManager.exe and choose "Properties".
3) Go to the Compatibility Tab and select "Run this program as an Administrator". if the option is grayed out then this is because youve UAC disabled, in which case enable UAC Disable User Account Control (UAC) the Easy Way on Win 7 or Vista - the How-To Geek (http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/disable-user-account-control-uac-the-easy-way-on-windows-vista/) and reboot the PC then do step 3 and then you can disable UAC again and try it.
4) Do the same for HMHud.exe and DBControlPanel.exe and most importantly in your case hmimport.exe which is the app your having the problem with

It might need a HMreinstall after you enable UAC if UAC was enabled during install

One other thing to try aswell is to create a new database FAQ - Hold'em Manager Poker Tracking Software :: Create / Delete Database (http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/75/Create+%7B47%7D+Delete+Database) and reimport some hands and test with the new database

i wrote in the OP that i did in fact import hands without error into a newly created DB.

i followed the steps and still have the problem in the original DB, unfortunately.

If the new DB works and the old one doesn't, then your old DB is damaged/corrupt. Export everything from your old DB and import them to your new DB, before you delete the old DB.

Export Your Notes
http://faq.holdemmanager.com/images/notes-02.jpg

Export Your Bonuses and Rakeback - Options > Rakeback & Bonuses
http://faq.holdemmanager.com/images/rakeback-bonuses-01.jpg

Export any tourney summaries by selecting all your tournaments in the Data View Sub-Tab of the Tourney > Results Menu and choose Export Tourney Results and summaries

http://faq.holdemmanager.com/images/tourney-data-view-01.jpg

and finally:

Export your hands and then open the new database and import them into that - FAQ - Hold'em Manager Poker Tracking Software :: How to Import & Export Hands (http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/98/How+to+Import+%26+Export+Hands)

Once the Hands are imported you can import the Tourney Results and Bonuses/Rakeback
