Hi - I have XP Pro SP3 on two laptops

My secondary poker laptop is postgreSQL 8.3 ASCII & my primary poker laptop is 8.4 UTF
My secondary poker laptop is 6 months behind on HM updates
I want to 'upgrade' one to match the other

I am not worried about preserving the database or settings of postgreSQL/HM on the secondary - I know how to take that stuff from the primary

Q1] I can't see an FAQ on 'upgrading' postgreSQL so I suppose I must uninstall 8.3 & install 8.4 ?

Q2] If 'yes' to Q1.
Is it easier to just uninstall both postgreSQL & HM & use your new combo installer ?

Q3] If 'yes' to Q2.
I suppose I must remove ALL TRACE of the old postgreSQL (& maybe HM) to have a successful install - is revo + cccleaner enough for this ?

Thank you

FYI while checking the FAQs for install hints I noticed FAQ 71 "Reinstall PostgreSQL Preserving Old Database" contains (I think) out-of-date advice for Vista/7 users - written at the bottom of that FAQ:

"Note: UAC must be left off for PostgreSQL to work properly with Holdem Manager"

Q1) there is an internal Postgresql upgrade command but i never tried it. So you need to uninstall 8.3 and install 8.4 and restore the database. Or you install 8.4 on a different port (5433) and have both versions running.

Q2) No, just download postgresql from www.postgresql.org

Q3) thats not necessary, uninstall 8.3, install 8.4 and if its up and running delete the 8.3 folders.

Thanks for the FAQ Info.

Hi: I searched the forum for a how to, and this is the closest I came.
Trouble is I am a computer illerate. I can follow direction if simple and broken down to step by step. I am worried if I unistall 8.3 I will lose the 5+ million hand histories I have in it. Could you help an old fart out with a more simplistic and step by step way to upgrade to 8.4. Thanks Rod
