Hi I was wondering if somebody could help me. I want to run HEM but I us Linux (Ubuntu 9.04) as my main OS. How can I get it to work?

1. Download/install a VM like Virtualbox... use full version not the OSE.
2. Download/install Postgres on the Ubuntu side.
3. Create a Win XP client in VB.
4. Install Win XP SP2 (don't do any further updates) into the VM client.
4. Install ODBC driver into Win XP client and link to Ubuntu Postgres.
5. Install HM and poker clients into XP Client.
6. Play poker.

Thank you. So far so good. I installed ODBC into my client. But I don't know how to like to Ubuntu Postgres...
Also, you want me to download HEM into my VB? Then when I play on linux my hands will register into my HEM in the VB? Or what. I don't get what's going on there.

You play poker in your XP machine and you have HM running in your XP machine.

Only the postgresql server runs under Linux. If you use NAT network (Virtual box default) the IP address of your postgresql host is 10.0.2.2

so, I take it HEM itself won't run in Wine?

You can try it but i think you will have problems especially with the Hud.

Wine sucks and adds a layer of complication you don't need. For example, lets say that Pokerstars releases an update. You have to hope the guys at HM get on to it pretty quick and release a patch. But, if you're running Wine there's also a chance the PS update breaks Wine as well so that means you have another fix to be worried about.

Wine is ok for simple things... a VM is the only way to go for more complex issues.

And if you use Virtual Box you have a seamless mode which is nearly the same as Wine (at least i think so)

Will a VM inside a linux distribution take up a ton of resources though?

This depends of VM / emulator, but as a rule - yes.

Noob question: if the problem is only .net framework, can't you install it on ubuntu and run hem without virtual box?

You mean with Wine?
The main HM screens may work but i'm sure the Hud will not work.

So, the only means is virtualization??

Yes, HM doesn't support native Linux. In every case you need a virtualization.
