slow import

ok i am having a tough time doing a big import right now hem is saying 3.4 hands per second. i am running latest version and postgress 8.3 i know i do not have the greatest comp but i have 100gb free disk space still on here. 2gb ram
single core pros but it is 2.2 ghz. any ideas on speeding up?
