Hello,

I am under Windows XP Pro

I didnt play for months and now that I am trying to launch HM I have this error message
" The following error occured when trying to open database: Failed to establish a connection to '127.0.0.1' "
Then I press ok I have the database control panel
Servername 127.0.0.1
Port Number: 5432
Login Name: postgres
password: postgrespass

I press connect
then I get this message
" A connection to PostgresSQL could not be made. Would you like to have Holdem Manager attempt to start service?

Then if I press yes
" Sorry, Holdem manager was unable to start the service "
I press ok and
"Holdem manager has started the service. Please try again"
No idea what is started, I press ok and I still have the Database control panel and only that.
If I press connect, I still have the same messages
" A connection to PostgresSQL could not be made. Would you like to have Holdem Manager attempt to start service?

I have still postgres 8.4
I would prefer to not uninstall it to keep my old databases ( I am not a specialist to get back databases )

Any idea ?

This is usually a firewall or windows update issue.

Which Operating System, Firewall, and Anti-Virus are you using?

Please try all the following steps - http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/91/Can%27t+Connect+%7B47%7D+Failed+to+Start+PostgreSQ L+

Many of those free Norton, Mcaffee, Comodo, Zonealarm, etc, 'internet security' bundles will not work well with holdem manager.

Please do the following steps, so we can get your computer to a state that we know will work with Holdem Manager:

1) Uninstall any 3rd party security software bundles.
2) Reboot your computer
3) Please update to the latest version - http://www.holdemmanager.com/Downloads/HmUpdate.exe
4) Enable Windows Firewall's recommended settings through your Control Panel, turn off Windows Defender, and add firewall exceptions for HM and SQL - http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/275/Windows+Firewall+%7B47%7D+Defender+Problems
5) Install Microsoft Security Essentials for antivirus/malware protection and update it - Microsoft Security Essentials - Free Antivirus for Windows (http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/)

AVG Free AntiVirus or Avira Free Antivirus are good options, but their 'internet security' bundles/suites are not.

1 - Make sure you have updated your windows using the "Windows Update" feature Microsoft Windows Update (http://www.update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/v6/thanks.aspx?ln=en&&thankspage=5)
* - Make sure windows is fully updated until 'No New Important Updates are Found' (this may require multiple restarts and multiple 'check for updates'), including Internet Explorer 9 (even if you use a different web browser) and change your Windows Control Panel > Regional Settings Format to English (USA).
2 - Make sure Holdem Manager is updated to the latest version Downloads and Manuals - Hold'Em Manager, Omaha Manager & HM Apps (http://www.holdemmanager.com/store/downloads-manuals.php)
3 - Please make sure you have access to a good connection, we cannot provide support on really slow connections
4 - Please allow us full access otherwise it slows down the speed at which we can fix the issue

I use Windows XP pro 32 bit with free Avira.

Failed to establish a connection to ‘127.0.0.1’ Service 'PostgreSQL Database Server 8.x' (pgsql-8.x) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services
My problem starts with an error message saying that indeed it cannot connect to 127.0.0.1 ( I didnt notice it last time )
If that is a problem of privilege, I dont know how to change that. My windows account is administrateur.

I have made all steps and I had no clues.
Bored by all this weird stuff I have uninstalled postgres 8.4 with revo uninstaller and after a scan deleted all files.
So, I guess I dont have any databases left.

What postgres do you think I should install ? A more recent ?
I know you have a "kit" HM + postgres installer but I dont really want to uninstall HM and I would be way too afraid to lose my HUD settings ( too long time worked on that )

Use our combo installer. It has checkboxes to install sql without installing HM and it should automatically uncheck the HM option if it is installed.

1) Uninstall PostgreSQL from the Windows Control Panel.
2) Use our combo installer to reinstall PostgreSQL. Make sure you un-check Holdem Manager during installation. http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/Holdem_Manager_Setup.exe

If that installer fails to install PostgreSQL, please reinstall PostgreSQL using the following instructions:

1) Uninstall PostgreSQL from the Windows Control Panel.
2) run the command - start > programs > accessories > command prompt > right-click > run as administrator

net user postgres /delete

4) reboot.
5) Install PostgreSQL 8.3.9 from this link - http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/Postgres_8.3.9-v1.0.7.exe

If none of that works please email us as I explained previously for a teamviewer session.
