Yesterday, in the middle of a session, I got an error message from postgres and the hands stopped importing. Usually, I just update HEM and everything works out, but after updating, I just kept getting the "cannot connect to 127.0.0.1. I followed the protocol from this thread in order to uninstall and reinstall postgres while keeping the same database.

However, now I get an error message when I try to install postgres (version 8.3) I get the error message

"Failed to set permissions on the installed files. Please see the logfile in c:\program files\postgreSQL/8.3/tmp\pgperm.log"

then it basically undoes the installation. What do I need to do?

You get that error during the installation of postgresql, when you have your old \data folder in place? Did you uncheck the [ ] Initialize Database Cluster?

Which Operating System, Firewall, and Anti-Virus are you using?

I would suggest you try reinstalling postgresql and a clean DB, to make sure it connects OK. Make sure you copy/rename your old/current \8.3\data folder so you dont delete it yet.

1) Uninstall PostgreSQL with www.revouninstaller.com using the Deep setting.
2) If given the option, on the 2 following screens of Revo, choose the Select All > Delete buttons to remove any registry entries and leftover files. Make sure you have a copy of your \data folder saved already.!
4) Reboot your computer

A) Use our combo installer to reinstall PostgreSQL. Make sure you un-check Holdem Manager during installation. http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/Holdem_Manager_Setup.exe

If that installer fails to install PostgreSQL, please reinstall PostgreSQL using the following instructions:
1) Start > Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt > Right-Click > Run As Administrator

net user postgres /delete
2) Reboot.
3) Try installing this version of PostgreSQL - http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/Postgres_8.3.9-v1.0.7.exe
