I updated my HOSTS file in windows so that connections to bad websites are never made.

Now I can not get HEM to work I get the message "The following error occurred when trying to open the database: Failed to establish a connection to '127.0.0.1'."

I used the HOSTS file from mvps.org and I also added some of my own entries is there something in that specifically blocking postgres ie can I edit the HOSTS file?

Or better can I change the database connection so that it is at something like 127.0.0.2?

Thanks,

Still broken but here is an update.

I installed the newest HEM. Replaced the HOSTS file. = Still not working

Disabled my Antivirus and Firewall. = Still not working

What should I do now?

My setup is pretty specialized and a recent change in security polices now requires me to right click the 'start sql service' and 'run as administrator'. I have not had to do this previously as the UAC has been off and is now on.

The only thing i can recommend is try the following:

Open the windows services (somewhere in the control panel)
look for the postgresql service
and change the "Run as" to local system account
