So I updated HEM today because of the Merge update and it started perfectly after updating, HOWEVER, no hands were showing up for this month/this year/last year/whatever filter as if the database were empty!!!

So, I stopped the Postgresql service first and then started HEM without re-starting Postgresql. As a result, the DATABASE CONTROL PANEL (small sky-blue colored rectangular box) popped up with server/port/etc. details.

So, I clicked Connect and then the next screen of the box came up with the list of databases (I had just one in the list, I don't remember the exact name). For the first time, I made this huge mistake of clicking "SET AS DEFAULT" and then clicking START HOLDEM MANAGER.

Now, everytime I try to start HEM, it says FATAL ERROR DEFAULT DATABASE DOES NOT EXIST!!!

Sigh! Someone please help me!!!

Run dbcontrolpanel.exe from the HoldemManager folder.

Turn on the secondary Logon. The secondary logon service is a standard windows service which is available on every windows computer. In the latest versions it is not started automatically. You need to start it via control panel > administrative tools > services. Starting it once should insure it works in the future also.

This is usually a firewall or windows update issue.

First try to reboot.

If no help, try this:

Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Stop Service

Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Start Service

If that doesnt help delete the \postgresql\8.x\data\postmaster.pid file, if you see it. And reboot.

If that doesn't help you will have to reinstall PostgreSQL completely (try 8.4 or 8.2)

Did you try the steps above?

- Please see these steps to fix postgresql connection issues:

http://hm2faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/1001/Can+not+Connect+%7B47%7D+Failed+to+Start+PostgreSQ L+

- Please make sure that you have allowed postgres and pg_ctl in your firewall and antivirus exceptions. They are in postgres\bin.

- Please update windows fully. Please keep checking until it shows twice five minutes apart that there are no more updates.

- Please update your network adapter. Open device manager and find the model #. Search google for the model # drivers to download.

- Please run the windows repair on your winsock:

How to determine and to recover from Winsock2 corruption in Windows Server 2003, in Windows XP, and in Windows Vista (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811259)
