Microsoft pushed out an update today. Now I cannot connect to my database.

I have rebooted, installed the latest beta, stopped and restarted PostgreSQL.

I have no .pid file.

I turned off my Firewall and that did not fix it.

I do not use Windows Defender.

Please tell me there is a solution that does not require me to uninstall and reinstall everything again.

Been, there, done everything that didn't require me to uninstall or reinstall.

I wish they would repair these links. Many of them go to the same page not directly to the FAQ# they are referring to.

OK, I caved and uninstalled and reinstalled Postgres.

Now I get: database "HoldemManager" does not exist.

I assumed that I didn't need to reinstall HEM from the setup and unchecked it so only the Postgres would be installed. Was that wrong?

NM, I figured it out.

Not pleased that I have to spend hours reimporting and reconfiguring all my stuff.

I appreciate that HEM is a sophisticated program but it breaks when you don't do anything do it and that's hugely annoying and disappointing.

You really need to follow all the FAQ links. There's always a chance that one of the options that doesn't included reinstalling PostgreSQL will work for you.

This is usually a firewall or windows update issue.

First try to reboot.

If no help, try this:

Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Stop Service

Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Start Service

If that doesnt help delete the \postgresql\8.x\data\postmaster.pid file, if you see it.

Add exceptions to the windows firewall, even if it is off. If you have a 3rd party firewall, do the equivalent or uninstall it temporarily - http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/275/Windows+Firewall+%7B47%7D+Defender+Problems

Please try following these FAQs, step by step:

1) http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/91/Can't+Connect+%7B47%7D+Failed+to+Start+PostgreSQL+
2) reinstall the same version of postgresql, using the same \data folder - http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/71/Reinstall+PostgreSQL+Preserving+Old+Database
3) http://www.holdemmanager.net/forum/showthread.php?t=8261

If that doesn't help you will probably have to reinstall PostgreSQL completely and reimport your hands using these instructions - http://forums.holdemmanager.com/showthread.php?t=20755

We just launched our new FAQs2 days ago, so many of our old stickies and standard canned responses have to be updated to point to the new versions of the old faqs. I have updated the sticky that netsrak posted, so that one should be better now.
