I have daily trouble with "failure to read from transport connection"/"forcibly closed" or whatever messages when trying to HEM on Vista, I mostly just reboot and try it again until it works, but it still goes out during the middle of play so I'm trying to track down problems.

I don't have a "Run as Administrator" option for the .exe files. Is that a problem? And, yes, UAC is off.

edit: since it's the first thing mentioned in other DB posts, I have Norton antivirus/firewall, but I shut it all off permanently to try to get this to work, and it hasn't helped.

Please backup your hands/database first: http://208.109.95.123/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=12

Then:

1. Uninstall PostgreSQL
2. Uninstall any Antivirus software
3. Restart your computer
4. Install PostgreSQL
5. Install Antivirus software

I assume this is a fix for keeping the antivirus software from getting in the way of HEM?

I don't see how doing this would allow me to run HEM as an administrator. Am I wrong? Is not running as an administrator a problem?

You shouldnt have to worry about that unless you have Vista although when your starting HM with x64 machines you do need to right click DBControlPanel.exe and select "Run As" and choose an Admin but the issue with that error is that something is blocking postgreSQL access to the database and its almost always antivirus/firewall and disabling them isnt usually enough so do as Fabio described and also make sure you have the newest version
