After a couple of months of no problems, I just started having problems today. I was using v1.09.

When I tried to run HEM, I got the 'Unable to connect to postgres...; error.

I thought going to v1.10 might possibly resolve the problem, but it didn't. With v1.10, the first error message I get is:

'Error opening registry. Object reference not set to an instance of an object.'

After that error window is closed, I get the 'Unable connect to postgres...' error, as I did with v1.09. Or, it just sits there on Initializing Database.

I have to end the program with Task Manger.

Sorry, try downloading the update again. It is a registry permission issue of some kind but this new update doesn't show the error each time.

I ran the update again and it did get past the 'Error opening registry' error message.

But, I'm still stuck on this error pop up ...
The following error occurred when trying to open the database. Failed to establish connection to '127.0.0.1'.

I click OK and it take me to the Database Control Panel. I click connect and get

A connection to PostgreSQL could not be made. Would you like to have Holdem Manager attempt to start the service?

I click yes and get

Sorry, Holdem Manager was unable to start the service.

So, it looks like I've lost my PostgreSQL connection. How do I get it back?

Restart your computer,
* Under Vista and Windows 7 make sure that holdemmanager.exe, hmhud.exe and dbcontrolpanel.exe are started as administrator. Run the windows explorer and navigate to your Holdemmanager installation directory. Right click the holdemmanager.exe, dbcontrolpanel.exe and the hmhud.exe executable and select "Run as admin" from the popup menu under compatibilty.

If that doesn't help: http://forums.holdemmanager.com/showthread.php?t=22409

I'm running Vista.

Run as administrator is greyed out on all three files.

It was running fine before. I haven't changed any settings, at least not intentionally. Why would this suddenly be an issue?

How do I activate the Run as administrator option?

And, why does this keep happening with HEM but not with all my many other programs?

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

This happens because Holdemmanager is a very complex which has to communicate with a database (postgresql), various pokerclients, read files in different folders and control the graphics for the Hud.

Especially after installing windows updates it is sometimes necessary to reboot the computer.

Are you still getting the "unable to connect error"? Did you check the things from the link i posted above?

It appears I've lost part of my hard drive.

Sorry to take up your time.

I do appreciate your quick and thoughtful replies.

Thanks,
