I having the same issue as many with not being able to get a connection with postgre 8.3 when trying to set-up with HEM. I know 8.4 is what is being recommended to be used at this time but I really need 8.3 to be compatible with some other software. Is there anyway to get around this error while still using postgre 8.3?

Please update to the latest beta - http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/HmBetaUpdate.exe

For W7 and Vista you must set \holdem manager\dbcontrolpanel.exe, holdemmanager.exe and hmhud.exe are started as administrator. Run the windows explorer and navigate to your Holdemmanager installation directory. Right click the executables and select properties... then select "Run as admin" from the compatibility tab. If you have Vista and the checkboxes are greyed out and you can't select it, please turn UAC on, reboot, and then set the files to run as administrator.

Install SQL 8.3 (download the latest 8.3.x version from postgresql.org) on a different port, for example 5433.
Set exceptions to port 5433 to your firewall.

Actually, I think I may know now what the problem is. I actually need postgreODBC 8.03.400. The 8.4 SQL should be ok. I had earlier downloaded a new version of holdem manager that seemed to have SQL built into it. It was a newer version than the 1.09 and was larger the 14 MB beta versions out there. Do you have any idea what that was or a link so I can re-download that since I deleted the SQL and that was only thing that had worked for me today?

Is it this one? http://www.holdemmanager.net/HEComboInstaller_1.0.4

You need to upgrade your HM to the latest beta after installing this.
