Hi,

My motherboard died.

The CPU was an ancient 1.8 gig relic.

I've got about 4 gigs of hand histories on my drive.

Like an idiot I don't have backups for the last six months...

I've bought a new motherboard/cpu/memory. I was going to rebuild a new computer today. I think I'll still use Windows XP.

What's the best way to get the old hands off the old disk?

I was going to install XP on a new disk and then mount the old hard drive and try to recover the database.

Ideas?

Your info is almost certainly still on the drive. Unless its not really a MB problem. Just install the old drive into your new machine and windows will assign a letter to it like D: You will be able to read it as a second drive.

Make sure you set your boot sequence in your bios to boot from the new windows installation (on the new disk) so it doesn't try to boot the old operating system, which won't work when you drop the drive into a new machine.

The operating system on the old drive won't run the machine, but you will still be able to read the files on the old drive, and transfer them wherever you want.

If you use the same version of postgresql to install on the new PC you just need your \program files\postgresql\8.x\data folder.

Please update to the latest beta - http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/HmBetaUpdate.exe

Install the same version of PostgreSQL as your current DB using these instructions - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=177

If you have moved/installed your DB to a non-default location, please make sure to change the 'Data Directory' path during the installation.
