at the very beginning after unzipping the postgre file as i am told and once i begin the start up session. basically a few windows into the installation process, at the one labeled "INITIALIZE DATABASE CLUSTER" i input the password twice at the bottom and leave everything else default like i am told to.. once i click next i get the following error message..
"The secondary logon service is not running. this service is required for the installer to initialize the database. please start this service and try again"

i have no idea what that means, i installed this on my desktop just fine and have never seen that error message. i even went ahead and restarted my comp to see if that would help and nothing. what do i do?

thanks

ok did that.. postgre "supposably" installed correctly. as soon as that finishes and the original blue and white box pops up which says "connect". once i click connect it says.. both the username and password are indentical to what was entered before.

"The username or password was incorrect. Would you like to have Holdem Manager configure the database to accept this log in and password?"

i click yes then it says,,

"Sorry hold manager was unable to make the change"

This means you have previously installed postgresql (PT3 trial?). If you havent uninstalled it yet, you should be able to simply connect HM to the sql installation.

PT3's default name/password is - postgres/dbpass
HM's default name/password is - postgres/postgrespass

If that doesnt help:

1. Go to C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\8.x\data, move the the pg_hba file to your Desktop and open it with notepad.
2. Scroll to the bottom and change all md5 to trust. Save and close the file
3. Move the file back to the data folder
4. Restart the PostgreSQL service: Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services

HM will accept any password now.

If you find you need to reinstall postgresql completely, use these steps - http://forums.holdemmanager.com/showthread.php?t=20755

All you needed to do was save the file to your desktop where you have write permissions. Then cut/paste it from your desktop to the original folder.

This is because HM isn't running as admin.

Please give HoldemManager Administrator rights -

1) Go to C:\Program Files\RVG Software\Holdem Manager (Program Files (x86) if you have the 64bit version)
2) Rightclick the HoldemManager.exe and choose "Properties".
3) Go to the Compatibility Tab and select "Run this program as an Administrator".
4) Do the same for HMHud.exe and DBControlPanel.exe

f you still get that error, you need to try this - ISticky: 'connection error: access to the path ....... \config\holdemmanger.config' is denied' (http://forums.holdemmanager.com/showthread.php?t=21154)

I would suggest a clean reinstall of HM now - http://www.holdemmanager.net/forum/showthread.php?t=20816
